Hi, I recently bought a P-6831FX with a stock T5550 and 3GB of RAM and decided to upgrade to 4GB of RAM. I purchased the Kingston 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) RAM kit from New Egg and installed the RAM into my computer following the guide posted in the unofficial lounge. After I installed the RAM, I booted up the computer and went to check my system properties. The amount of memory listed is still at 3070 MB. I restarted my computer several times but nothing changed.

Vista 32 bit can only use 3gb ram. After some of the updates your computer should be able to recognise the full 4gb but it will never use that4gb until you install a vista 64 bit.

Are you using 32-Bit Vista or 64- Bit. 32-Bit won't recognize 4GB of RAM

    I second(third?) that.

@op, I wouldnt worry about you. If you are like the average user/gamer, you wont even fully use your 3 GB of RAM.

you can install vista home premium x64 with the key on the back of your notebook, just borrow a disk from somewhere.

Thank for the answers. So would it be safe for me to go reinstall a 64-bit version of Vista with the key on the bottom of my laptop?

haha, thx. Sorry for the newbie posts but will the 32-bit drivers that I backed up from the factory settings work for the new 64-bit Vista?
