Before you start asking some questions about my laptop, it is a P6860FX on stock everything including drivers but clean installed. Ok, i'm going to set this up into two categories:

    Mic:

I just received my new logitech extreme pc gaming headset just yesterday and it worked just fine as soon as I got home. Today, I was heading back to cs:s to just play quick games and got myself banned from a server since little did I know that my mic was emitting a screeching/scratchy noise when I press the push to talk button. I tried to test in Windows and same ordeal. I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver provided by gateway and that didn't help with my issue. I highly doubt it is my mic because that's almost impossible that it can break already because the headphone section still works.

    Vista Installation Disc/Upgrading...

I noticed that the disc that came with gateway also came with Vista 32 bit. Will this void my warranty if I install the 32 bit version of Vista on my laptop? When I mean warranty, I mean either the gateway limited and the best buy 3 yr ADH PSP. I need an answer quick because of my laptop repeatedly crashes due to the majority of software im using is 32bit software running in 64 bit and I believe Vista 32-bit is faster. ALSO DRIVER SITES (for 32bit Vista) WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED AS I AM NOOB AT FINDING DRIVERS

    Windows Vista Installation/vLite:

Does the disc that came with Gateway work with the slipstreaming program, vLite?

I NEED ANSWERS TO ALL THIS PLEASE!!!! I am desperate...my laptop is only a week old...

no, it won't void the warranty and i believe u sue the same key to install 32 bit but u can't use all of the 4gb.i also can't guarantee that there are drivers for the laptop in 32 bit either.

I really dont care about the extra .5 lol but umm ok i think the drivers used here are used in the p6831FX which has the 32 bit drivers so maybe I can use those. Anyone wanna answer my vLite slipstreaming question and teh mic question I found out was only occuring within steam not on the windows side so its just steam....

You can, in fact, use the Gateway Disc as a base for an nlite build. However, the disc is a basic Vista install with no Gateway drivers included. You will have to build the drivers disc from the Gateway utility and then slipstream those into the nlite build.

So here is an aftermath...I have reverted back to 32bit Vista however without using any slipstreaming...all drivers from the P6831 worked on my 6860FX except for the Intel Storage Driver or something like that so I am using the microsoft driver.

The revert back to 32-bit still hasnt fixed my mic issues but I still believe that its the recent steam update because I sound just fine on Ventrilo (after signing onto Ventrilo on two different computers and checking my voice [eww]) and also sounds fine on Sound Recorder. Can someone who has steam inform me if they are experiencing the same problems? I have reinstalled [steam] many times and I am indeed putting it in the right port and using the IDT control panel. The noise when I talk in steam sounds crackly and sometimes you get this huge annoying screeching sound. The only time I never have problems with the sound is directly after reinstalling and running steam but when I shut down or restart...it comes back to haunt me.
