I'm debating between these two computers, but i cant quite decide.
I just have one question about the difference.

What kind of decrease in gaming performance will I notice between the Nvidia 8600M GS 512Mb in the HP and the 8800M GTS 512Mb in the Gateway?

I saw one review that put the frame rate with the 8600M GS at one third of what the 8800M GTS acheived. Does that sound about right?

    yeah, that was over clocked.

3303 with old drivers was my stock 3dmark06 score.

well thanks for helping me avoid that mistake. I know laptops dont stay with the times for very long, but I'd at least like to buy something that isn't already outdated

Well, the 8600M GS isn't outdated, but it's a low-mid level card, whereas the 8800M GTS is a high level card. Not exactly fair to compare the two.
