I know there were some issues with hard drive noises in the main thread for the laptop but I'm making this thread just to see how big the issue is. I am also hearing this clicking noise on my laptop and curious if this is a known issue so we could have it replaced. It sounds just like tilting a laptop with a loose screw rolling inside the case -- only this laptop is stationary.

The sound is pretty annoying. No- it is not loud. Just annoying. Imagine yourself on a picnic, everything looks and sounds normal until a fly lands on your food/skin. You shoo it off, it goes away.. forget about it.. only to come back a few seconds later.

I've gone through 3 HD and they all click on the P-6831. First one was exchanged and 2nd one clicked too. Now I have a Raid 0 setup to get double the clicking! The HD still click when I put it in a different laptop as well.

are the 3 drives that you used the default drive from the P-6831? Have you used a retail drive or other drive other than the one from the P-6831?

My P-6831FX has the HD clicks. Sounds like the head is parking/unparking.

I agree, this clicking gets rather annoying. Hope a fix comes about soon.

only hear it if its quiet in my apartment, i think its normal becuase my last laptop did it, just the pin writting data.
Now if it gets real loud it means the hard drive is about to fail, but nothing to worry about it, until it gets to that point.

I havent answered the poll yet, because I just got the laptop 2 days ago. Ill answer it after 2 weeks or so, but up till now the only noises I hear are from the speakers, the cooling fans ..... and the keyboard while typing I guess.

Question: is the sound there from the start or after a few days of use?

    That sounds serious

I have the original WD2500BEVS-22UST0 drive and purchased an additonal matching OEM drive for it and hear nothing out of them other than the "normal" faint "click" ...I can't imagine all these drives being faulty though one never knows...personally I'd run a benchmark on them and forget about it....we all have at least a one year warranty on them anyhow.

I am having this same issue. I believe it is not a problem with the actual hard drives but with the controller or something in the laptop causing this to happen. I am running 2 WD 250GB 5400rpm drives in RAID 0.
