Has anyone try to put one of these drive in his/her 7811/7805/7801 yet?

I just placed an order for 1, and should be coming in a week or so. I can't wait for Newegg to restock the Sony Optirac BC-5500s anymore...

You might be one of the first. Everybody seems to be talking about the 5500s. If this one works, I might be next in line to get one. Please post about your experience and any issues. Hopefully there won't be issues besides installing the proper Bluray software to play the discs.

Curious about what firmware/drivers you need for this. I've seen updates for the 5500s, but not sure about this model

I'm hoping you didn't pay that price for a blu ray reader only? That seems completely outrageous.

I bought one back on the 11th for $135. But mine's coming from Hong Kong so we'll have to see how long it takes to arrive... :(

Well. Well. I too bought a drive from an Ebay seller from HK. I also paid $135 but it was for the much talked about Sony 5500s. Now I am debating whether to get PowerDVD, WinDVD plus Bluray, or the ArcSoft Total Theater. I've heard the WinDVD doesn't do BD-Live yet so I am holding off. I am leaning toward ArcSoft's player as it does BD-Live well.

Anybody wanna chime in on their choice of software player?

x9100 seems kind of a waste if this one is like the 7811 and can't OC above 3ghz? I'm angling for a P9600 myself, but for those that need more power the T9800 seems like the best way to go right now at least.

Thanks for the info. Do you like the product? Do you have issues with disc compatibility? I heard it's great and is very fast. Thanks.

    Reason for purchase: Bang-for-buck.

It also integrates well with the media panel (FF/RW/Pause/Play, etc). I haven't connected to my 52" via HDMI as I already have a BR player on that TV, but on the WSXGA+ screen on the lappy it looks good.

I do wish I could specify an audio output other than the default audio in Vista (IE: bluetooth headphones but still leave the internal speakers as default), but other than that I have no complaint.

Haven't found any discs that won't play yet...

Mine does the same exact thing. For some reason, the Blu-ray video refuses to play on both my tv and computer simultaneously, even when they are set to reflect each other. I did, however, get it to show up on the tv and not the computer while they were both set to reflect each other rather than the other way around...

I have a 7805 and just installed the ct10n and am having issues with the drive. Every blu-ray disc i try doesn't work unless I use anydvd. I returned a sony bc5500 because i was told that drive fit fine but the faceplate didn't. It was exchanged for this drive with windows decects correctly but won't play any RETAIL blu-ray without anydvd hd. What am I doing wrong? I don't want to have to use anydvd... A LEGAL copy of that isn't cheap and the trial is only 21 days.

you need to use some sort of 3rd party software to play dvd's. wmp, quicktime, etc will not play blu ray's. i use windvd 9. i think it was something like $80 for it.

There was a coupon code (Registration08) out there for 20% off ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre which brought the price down to 55. That was about the cheapest I could find for BD playback software. Code appears to still be active.

Sorry for the OT everyone but, Yes, yes, yes Big Mike my favorite breed, he is one of our rescues. We have 2 right now, the one pictured is approx 5yrs, the other almost 13 and still going strong, but the older one has a real rare disease called SA (sebaceous adenitis) that showed up at approx 5yrs of age. It has been a real challenge to deal with.
