Has anyone try to put one of these drive in his/her 7811/7805/7801 yet?
I just placed an order for 1, and should be coming in a week or so. I can't wait for Newegg to restock the Sony Optirac BC-5500s anymore...
-
You might be one of the first. Everybody seems to be talking about the 5500s. If this one works, I might be next in line to get one. Please post about your experience and any issues. Hopefully there won't be issues besides installing the proper Bluray software to play the discs.
-
Curious about what firmware/drivers you need for this. I've seen updates for the 5500s, but not sure about this model
-
I will keep everyone posted once it gets here.
at least this drive cost less than the 5500s -
I ordered it too ,and got power dvd 8 ultra to play blurays hope thats all there is to it
-
I'm hoping you didn't pay that price for a blu ray reader only? That seems completely outrageous.
-
No it was $150. hope its not a 9.5 ,but I seen others that had the same one said it was 12.7 I think and hope its a typo and not a 9.5 the picture shows 12.7 one
was on ebay Item number: 180321676724
-
Great minds think alike!
I bought one back on the 11th for $135. But mine's coming from Hong Kong so we'll have to see how long it takes to arrive... -
-
Anybody wanna chime in on their choice of software player? -

Yes .......................
-
Next the cpu upgrade lol
-
x9100 should be good... but still expensive...
-
x9100 seems kind of a waste if this one is like the 7811 and can't OC above 3ghz? I'm angling for a P9600 myself, but for those that need more power the T9800 seems like the best way to go right now at least.
-
So for @ $400. more I can make this a SS FX7805u (Super sport)
By droping in a T9800 -
-
Tyalt,
Thanks for the info. Do you like the product? Do you have issues with disc compatibility? I heard it's great and is very fast. Thanks.

Reason for purchase: Bang-for-buck.
It also integrates well with the media panel (FF/RW/Pause/Play, etc). I haven't connected to my 52" via HDMI as I already have a BR player on that TV, but on the WSXGA+ screen on the lappy it looks good.
I do wish I could specify an audio output other than the default audio in Vista (IE: bluetooth headphones but still leave the internal speakers as default), but other than that I have no complaint.
Haven't found any discs that won't play yet... -
Well, I got my CT10N drive today. It's installed and is working well so far (with PowerDVD).
-
Same here working well,, ct10n with powerdvd8 got batman DN on now
not bad for $149.99 -
and the add said it was 9.5 its 12.7 thick
-
How do you get HDMI to play bluray out mine wont show both at same time I dont know how to play bluray from my laptop to my tv via hdmi cable??
-
-
-

-
-
I m still waiting for mine to arrive....
Most likely I will get Arcsoft -
-

WoW it looks great on my 52 samsung750 -
Thanks for the feedback. I have PowerDVD and am eagerly awaiting my Sony BD drive from Hong Kong
-
Awesome, catttman! Glad to hear things are well. I can't wait for mine to arrive. Enjoy your movies
-
it looks better than my samsung 1500 on my Lcd tv
-
I just get DD sound via hdmi not any DDHD sound
but it does sound great
(or dts which ever it is) -
-
what took so long
Is that a sticker over your drive trim -
-
-
Great job, gentlemen! I too did the upgrade and am enjoying the Dark Knight in all High Def glory
BobXX, where did you get your sticker. I like it. It makes sense you covered up the LabelFlash logo. -
I actually have a second that I didn't use, if anyone's interested. -
BobXX,
I might be interested in your spare drive. PM me.

Anyone have any problems with compatibility with newer Blu Ray discs and this drive?
-
No problems as I said many times before with that drive best deal for 149.00 I use dvd 8 ultra
play on my lcd tv via HDMI too...100% ok !
-
just installed the drive in my 7811. running windvd9. haven't had any issues with any blu rays. great deal!
-
I have a 7805 and just installed the ct10n and am having issues with the drive. Every blu-ray disc i try doesn't work unless I use anydvd. I returned a sony bc5500 because i was told that drive fit fine but the faceplate didn't. It was exchanged for this drive with windows decects correctly but won't play any RETAIL blu-ray without anydvd hd. What am I doing wrong? I don't want to have to use anydvd... A LEGAL copy of that isn't cheap and the trial is only 21 days.
-
you need to use some sort of 3rd party software to play dvd's. wmp, quicktime, etc will not play blu ray's. i use windvd 9. i think it was something like $80 for it.
-
I use dvd8ultra to play blurays works 100% fine
-
There was a coupon code (Registration08) out there for 20% off ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre which brought the price down to 55. That was about the cheapest I could find for BD playback software. Code appears to still be active.
-
I don't think I asked this before, and it's completely OT, but Andy is that a Samoyed in your avatar? (I'm 99.9% positive it is) Is it yours? My family has owned Samoyeds for years.
