Due to medical bills, I'm having to sell my Gateway 6831FX laptop. Link is here if anyone's interested:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160219260006
It's currently loaded with Windows XP and has all the drivers correctly installed. Low reserve also.
BTW - have enjoyed this forum. It was a great help in locating XP drivers.

I put a id in for it, did you do any upgrades to it? Did you make a system restore disk? Did you get the BB warrenty?

Hello, I had planned to upgrade the CPU in the next couple of months, but never got around to doing that. I have the original operating system disk and am a certified tech....so there's no problem in restoring the laptop to the condition when I purchased it if the buyer doesn't want XP. I did not get the BB warranty. (I used to work at BB and their warranties have too many loopholes) Thanks for the questions. Will be happy to answer any others you might have.

Anyone can add the 3 year Gateway warranty, as i have, for $189. They only asked for the buy date being just released. Call Gateway for details.
Best wishes, holliday. -

Yes. I understand the warranty availability. It's sad, but money has been so tight that even the $189 hasn't been doable for my family. Fortunately, this machine has been rock solid for the two months that I've had it. Never intended to sell this incredible laptop...but priorities insist that I do now.
Thanks to all for the well wishes. I really do appreciate it. -
To the OP, I feel your pain, man......7 years ago, I had to be taken to ER for a home accident, catch was I didn't had any med coverage.
I got treated and recovered. Kaiser billed me approx $1.5k for 1 night.....I was also at college so was a broke-ass anyway....ended up borrowing some money from family and doing 2 jobs+school to get it finally paid off.
I hope me or my family (or anyone) never have to go thru that ever again :-(.

I understand. Glad you recovered and got your bills paid. In my case, we did have insurance when my wife was expecting, but had no idea how actual little was covered by the stupid policy.
I've had alot of computers in my lifetime and this laptop is the best I've had of all of them. But, as much as I've enjoyed it (and it pains me to admit this)...at the end of the day, it's a luxury and not a necessity.
Thanks to all the well wishers on this forum. I hope whoever buys this laptop will understand and appreciate what a powerful beast they are getting. Gateway sure hit a home run with the 6831. Oh well...so it goes. -
I might sell mine...depending on how high your bid goes to......

Dude, hold up !!!!
Dont rush to taking this course of action !!!! You may want to follow up with your insurance co and appeal your medical claims for additional re-consideration ! I'm senior accounts admin. for one of the topest Hospitals in the US. I mean, it trully depends on case-by-case basis, but overall remember that it is really important if your insurance co had processed your claims correctly (Dx/CPT - coding factors, providers participation with your medical plan ....etc...) ! My whole point here is that it could be thousands of different possibilities ! Trust me, people take very careful steps of reviewing all the policy's info, EOBs, and speaking to the doctors (always remeber about the professional courtesy-a discount that doctors usually give all the time) In addition, if it was ER related issue patient shall never be responsible for anything , unless it is your ER -copay !! -
Get better!

Thanks to all for the well wishes and advice. Truth is that it was a bad policy and also my mistake for not getting better information from my former employer. All in my family are in great health...and I really do appreciate the well wishes. Just trying to do the responsible thing and get our bills paid. The laptop has been awesome....but it is a luxury and I can exist without it. Once we're debt free, I hope to be able to locate another one somehow.
Thanks again to everyone. -
I just checked the auction and the price is still pretty good. I just got one of these from BB for my wife and she loves it. I wish I'd have seen this earlier and sent the money to someone who needed it more.
It's so encouraging to see someone willing to sacrifice something they enjoy to be responsible. I am very sorry for your situation but you seem to have the character to pull through it well Holiday. We'll be praying for your family's journey to debt free living (it's an amazing place to be). -

Again, I'm blown away by the kindness that people have shown on this forum. Can't say thank you enough.
Ironically, it was on this forum that I first heard about the 6831FX and what a great value it was. That was one of the reasons I came back and posted here when I realized that I needed to sell it.
I've had some well-intended people from this forum offer to buy the laptop outright. Problem with that is we're selling it thru my wife's Ebay account and now that the reserve has been met, ending the auction early would kill her feedback (and be unfair to the kind people there that have also offered well wishes).
I just hope that whoever ends up winning this auction is someone who will use the full power of the thing and not just browse the net. -
I bought and recieved this laptop from holliday777, it came in perfict condiction. Very good comuication with him on the sell, I asked a bunch of questions
Anyways now I have a P-6831 FX and a P-171x FX, and they are both great machines.
