Just wondering how many of you have bought them. My local store has them in stock now so I'm going to pick one up tomorrow.
-
-
Just picked mine up today!
-
got mine at saturday ^
-
I will in a few weeks. Hopefully BB will have a price drop or sale by then.
-
picked one up about an hr ago
-
Nope. Decided in favor of Beast Desktop with 9800 GX2 and 28" monitor.
7811 is the one laptop that sounds good on paper,
but the frames are just not there in hi res mode :-( -
-
but for someone who can live with 1440x900 it was real nice value! -
-
While the new 7811 is one fine machine, I'll stick with my "old" 6831 with a T9300 and get better benchmarks.
But if I didn't have my "old" Gateway I would definitely get this new model. -
that this laptop doesn't hit.
It can max out games from 4 years ago, but in today games
you already have to lower your res, and come the next wave of games
and you can only play on medium details and low res
and at that point your pretty much missing out on all the graphicals
add to that the fact that your CPU is going to bottleneck in major gun fights,
so your just not going to get much fun out of this machine interms of gameing.
Also it's not very portible, carrying arround a 17 inch laptop is quite heavy and cumbersome escpescially for college student and your professors always going to give you dirty looks if you bring it to class.
Also your probably going to get destroyed in FPS's because person with big screen going to have much less trouble to see you from the far end of the screen because their screen is bigger than 17" so the characters are stretched out so he can pop some headshots. -
max out games from 4 years ago? of course. lower resolution for today's games? even crysis can play at max resolution (probably not max settings though). all computers have thresholds, your desktop too. cpu is an easy upgrade and won't need to be upgraded for at least 2 years.... have you actually researched this or what -
I have never had to lower graphical settings either, its always been max, and should be that way for about 6 more months at least. -
dw about him hes def just reassuring himself over his desktop buy...
-
And everything you've said here is incorrect and borderlines on retarded. Now go forth and troll the desktop forum. -
If you consider around 30 fps dropping to 20 (the numbers are give or take)in major gunfights playible
then sure this laptop is cool and you can play on max settings.
You can max it out, of course, but what is the framerate that you get after that? -
if it's crysis, show me a laptop that can play it better for the price. We simply turn our settings to medium, it's not a big deal at all -
yeah i dont think you even loooked at the benchmarks, here ill help you. The signature is where my laptop specs are. Below it is the links to the benchmarks. You look at them. Tough i know.
If your talking about crysis, then yes, i do consider that cool, cause thats hella good for a laptop i didnt pay over $1500 for. speaking of which im going to take it over to my friends, to lan.
OH RIGHT,you cant do that, you have a desktop. good thing I have a laptop with superior "graphicals"
ps, Jakamo, turn em to high, cause this laptop can do that -
Nope. Not Crysis. How Much Fps You Get In CoD 4 1920x1200 maxed out and UT3 1920x1200 maxed out with some AA during intense battle, with like 5 - 10 people on screen all firing guns? (And on large map, not just in little tiny room)
I think I saw your CoD bench before and it was something like 35or 45 on 1440x900 and you were just looking at the world? -
-
who thinking about buying this laptop to better aid them in their decision process. -
oh, cause I thought you were just trolling, coming in here hating on the laptops, we know your desktops better, we really dont care. Atleast you have better "graphicals" though.
-
Look, I know, sometimes going to forum dedicated to something
and saying the truth about something, may not get the best response,
but in the end it's the truth even though you may be in denial. -
-
After briefly mentioning desktop in my first post in this thread,
in my consequent posts I was just saying the facts about this laptop for the most part. If you think I said wrong facts:
please, DO post links to benchmarks from respectable sources that prove me wrong otherwise, my point stands. -
Here's another nice little fact about this laptop: it'll outperform pretty much every other laptop in it's price range when it comes to gaming.
-
1.I do not have to lower my res
2. I can play on highest settings, and I have all the graphicals
3. Nope, my CPU is not the bottleneck, I have one of the fastest mobile processors available, so this is no problem
4. I have so much fun, its not even funny, so stop being a debby downing, fun sponge.
5. I can just stick in a backpack, its very portable, much more so then a desktop.
6. Nope, my eyesight is good, so I have no problems seeing people, I sit quite close so my screen is more then adequate
and HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY IT LOOK AT THE BENCHMARKS! WHY WOULD I LIE ABOUT THE RESULTS, WHAT DOES THAT GAIN ME?Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Your using 1440x900, 7811 has 1920x1200 screen...
-
*shakes head in disbelief*
Warloque, why are you being so sour since you're not getting this laptop? I remember you getting so hyped over this laptop about a week ago. Stop ruining the spotlight because your mother won't buy you one.
There are testimonials from others playing Oblivion, Crysis and GRID on medium settings with no AA and 1920x1200 resolution. Everyone is able to play all those games maxed out (except for Crysis which runs on high settings at 1280x800 or 1024x768) at 1440x900/1680x1050 resolution.
Narsail has provided the benchmarks of his machine and it clearly shows that the 7811 FX is the best value gaming laptop money can buy. -
Stop offencing me! I just say truth! I'm not gonna talk with you if you call me names etc.
I said you can play, LOL, you can even play crysis at Very High at 1920x1200, but you get like 4-5 fps LOL!
Narsnail posted bench, in UT3 1440x900 he has 45 fps, that means 30 at 1920x1200 and reduced down to 20 when you introduce alot of people and everyone start firing on large map not just in 1 room and if you add AA then you get like 10 - 15. -
And you mean if we call you names, you'll go away?
-
i have a 42 inch 1920x1080 monitor on my desk attached to a [email protected] and 8800gtx and i still play 5 times the amount on my laptop because i can move it around my place from room to room and thats something a desktop just cant provide me . Now one day when im a ruler of a small country somewhere ill either have a desktop every 3 feet or some guy who just drags my stuff around for me and boy his life is gonna suck
.
-
1440x900 is plenty enough for casual gamers. You haven't even played games at that resolution and you're only complaining about numbers and figures. -
Guys,
Stay on topic. This thread is not for discussing the gaming capabilities of the 7811. Everyones need for a laptop is different so please respect their opinions.
Edit: Some posts have been deleted. -
I had a 6831 with a T9300 proc in it and ran the 8800GTS oc'd everytime I played. I sold it and picked up a 7811-FX this weekend from BB. I plan on upgrading the proc in it my next paycheck and hopefully we will be able to oc the 9800GTS by then.
I have a quad core desktop oc'd to 3.5ghz with an Nvidia GTX280 oc'd watercooled. I don't consider my laptop my "main gaming rig" but I could EASILY play UT3, TF2, Crysis, AOC, or any of the other games mentioned in this thread without issue on the 6831 once it was upgraded. I also play UT3 and TF2 with a team and played matches on the laptop just fine.
Fact is no laptop will be as fast as a desktop if you build it right, unless you shell out major money for the Sager 9262 but that is in a whole league of its own IMO. -
If your Desktop is remotely good, you probably spent $1000+. Not to mention your $600 monitor. I can buy this laptop for $1450 WITH a monitor and it's portable. Sure it's not a huge monitor, but it's connected right to my laptop.
I too have a large monitor setup (2 x 24") that I run on my year old desktop (which I spent $1000 on). This new laptop will spank that desktop. -
although I really agree with you adamjon, i should point out that the moderator asked us to get back on track with the topic
-
I started the topic...I'm just defending the 7811 which "is" the main topic in this thread.
BTW, warloque you "should" have got 2x these for 1/2 the price of your 9800gx2

Alright, now BACK ON TOPIC -
All I have to say the FX line available at BestBuy is the best gaming laptop you can find for the $$.
How about that FX? -
When did you get yours?
-
I've started to realize how well this comp stays cool. It got pretty warm during TF2 at 1920x1200 but ran pretty **** smooth. As soon as I exited TF2 the thing cooled extremely quick back to 38-40 degrees. I've been very impressed. I can't even hear the computer while playing games too!
-
How hot was it during TF2?
-
I wish I could trade my 6860 for it
-
How much would you sell your 6860 for?
-
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
Nope, i ended up deciding it wasnt worth the extra 200 it would have cost to upgrade from the 6860.
Its still a really impressive machine for the price, but the 6860 does everything i want, so when i went in for my swap out (from the last one) i just picked up their last 6860 instead of the 7811.
I honestly dont think i'll be ready to upgrade until around the timeframe of the 32nm die shrink of nehelam (core i7), then i might start looking for a new notebook (according to what everything is requireing at that point)
Hopefully Gateway will still be impressing the snot out of us with their FX line -
I have no doubts about gateway, they have a pretty loyal base here for their FX's
-
I love the resolution and performance, and with the exchanged laptop, it's even better
-
Why did you have to exchange?
-
Have you got the 7811?
