I just got a new 7805u to replace my old 6860fx (which i'm selling if anyones intersted). I switched over my raid 0 array and updated all the drivers and everything seems to be working fine except for the 2 problems. First i can't seem to get the headphone (audio out) jack to work. The speakers work great on the notebook but no matter what i plug in there i get nothing out and the notebook speakers continue to play sound even while something is plugged in. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Second the fan on the left side (cpu i think) is acting very weird. It seems to rapidly spin up for a brief second and then spin down. it does this pulsing up and down during idle and while playing games until it gets warm enough to stay on. Any suggestions for this because it just doesn't seem right. THe fans in my 6860 were always smooth and i never noticed them. but this rapid pulsing is annoying and probably not good for the fan itself.

    thanks,

GPU fan pulsing is a known issue. Presumably you got the same bios as me (.17C); 2 options: either get used to it like i did, or reflash to earlier bios. Having said that, I cannot guarantee that it will fix the issue though.

With regard to your sound issue, I encountered the exact same problem when i first got my p7805u. I wanted audio to be routed to external speakers via the headphone jack. here's the solution:-

Once i installed the Conexant Smart HD drivers, an icon should appear in Control Panel (classic view). Double-click it and uncheck classic mode and select advanced mode. This enables a previously greyed-out box. Click it and you get presented with two options with regard to how audio is routed the headphone jack. I selected the first one whereby all audio is routed from internal jack to speakers.

I'd be more specific but i am typing this post from the laboratory so i'm trying to recall all this from memory lol.

Thanks for the help with the sound Moto, everything is working great now.

Moto your correct i do have .17C bios. does anyone know what bios would be good to switch to in order to stop the fan pulsing? Also where would i get it and are their any drawbacks to reverting to an older bios?
Anyone who's tried and successfully stop the fan pulsing i would love to know how you did it

    thanks everyone

lol, .17 was supposed to be the thing that might have fixed fan pulsing. I don't know of anyone who has ever stopped the pulse, without a hardware solution at least. If you can keep your GPU cool enough (it's the GPU sink on the left side), then the pulsing will stop. If I'm in a cool room with a cooling pad, I can sometimes get it to stop completely. And I wouldn't flash backwards right now if I were you, as I don't think there's a way to flash to the .17 bios if it isn't already installed.
