I tried searching, couldn't find anything. I have the 7801 laptop and when I plug my headphones in, the sound doesn't transfer from the speakers. I have to shut down, reboot, while the headphones are plugged in to work. Is there a fix for this?

Thanks....I misspelled headphones when I tried my searching. :|
But the fourth link you mentioned is the problem I am having, so I will check it out later.

if the 7801 is anything like the 7805u, then the probable culprit is the Conexant Smart Audio hardware.

After installing the drivers for it etc. I encountered the exact same problem in that sound would not transfer to external speakers once the plug had been inserted in the headphone jack.

after some investigation, i found that I had to go Control Panel, open up Conexant SmartAudio (icon should be present in CP under classic view), uncheck the default settings (which i believe is named "Classic Mode" IIRC), and check the advanced box.

this then allowed an option to become enabled which allows you to redirect sound from internal speakers to headphones (or in my case, external speakers) when the headhpone jack was occupied.

hope that makes sense. I'll try remember to update my post with exact details once i get home.
