I plugged my headphones into the 3.5mm headphone jack on the side of my p-6831 and for some reason I'm not getting any sound out of it. Normally when I plug the headphones in I can hear a slight hum even when no sound is coming out but I can't even hear it. If I unplug the headphones the sound comes out of the speakers perfectly.

So my question is...what settings can I trouble-shoot before I start considering contacting Gateway?

Its late and I don't feel like researching the problem tonight so any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

does your IDT audio control panel pop out when u plug your jack in? mine does. but i dont have to do anything to get the heaphone running. it runs right after i plug it.

i would suggest updating the sound driver. you can get it from gateway's website. good luck

You could always try a different set of headphones or speakers to make sure it's not just those headphones... or try plugging those headphones into something else.

    1. check with different headphones (or make sure with an ipod that yours headphones work)
    2. make sure you using the right jack (you did say it was late ;) )
    3. plug the headphones in the line in socket.
    4. the IDT audio control panel should pop up and will allow you reconfigure your jacks.

No luck with that. When I plug in my headphone into the 3.5mm jack nothing pops up but when I plug in my mic into the mic jack IDT control panel pops up...sigh any suggestions?

Is it possible that you may have damaged the jack physically, a few days ago I was being stupid and stood up while I was wearing headphones and now my jack still works but if I wiggle the actual input I get odd volume changes and static, try wiggling the input
