    Hi guy's

I'm about to buy a MX6450 but know I see that there is a MX3414 at Best Buy for $780,-. I really don't know which one to buy the MX3414 has a Turion 64 x2 cpu while the MX6450 has a Turion 64. But the MX6450 has a 15.4" screen while the MX3414 has a 14.1" screen. Also the MX3414 carries DDR2 memmory and MX6450 DDR1, I'm not really concerned about the hdd size. I don't really know anything about GPU's so I would not know wich one is the best. I will use this lappy mostly for e-mail, movies and some gaming(not much). Please help me decide wich on is the best?

    Thanks.

    Hiya choopz!
I'd go with the MX3414. People have complained about the heat of the 15.4" Gateways when equiped with Turions. Also, you will notice a big difference between the Turion and the X2 (X2 being more powerful), especially when it comes to multitasking. The graphics cards are pretty equal as I hear.
I didn't know any Gateways had the X2's yet. That's pretty neat. $800 for that is an excellent deal :)
Before you purchase, do you mind telling me what games you plan to play? Integrated graphics are not meant for heavy gaming and I wouldn't want to mislead you ;)

I'm not really in to games but maybe I might play some IHRA drag racing, mostly I will be reading e-mail's looking at movies doing some burning etc. nothing really heavy. Won't the screen size difference be a big difference? I never saw a 14.1" screen are they wide or not?

    Thanks for the reply Hellmanns,

Yes, they are wide. Slightly smaller, yes, but in general, you won't have any degraded experiences or anything like that. If you are still concerned, go to a computer retailer and have a look at the different screen sizes.

Here is a nice review of the 14" Gateway. Don't pay attention to the performance or battery stuff, as it will certainly be different. Just the basics such as build quality, screen, etc.

Here is a review about the 15.4". Again, don't pay attention to the performance or battery as much as the basics.

Both are very nice looking machines. Very clean and sleek.

About the game, the graphics in both of the machines will be capable of playing it at decent settings. But note that I am unfamiliar with the game (I'm not much of a gamer), so I just made this assumption after looking at the system requirements ;)

Feel free to ask any more questions :)

    Hellmanns,

What do you think about these DDR2 ram's? Wich one will perform the best? It's the best price's I saw, at Best Buy they are more expenssive. I want to buy 2 sticks of 1GIG each because I think that the lappy comes with 2x512 and there are only two slots, therefore I will a have two purchase 2X 1GIG to get the lappy to 2GIG's.

Hey, sorry I didn't get to this sooner, I was at my grandma's funeral and didn't have access to internet until now.
Anyways, I like to stick to the more reputable brands. Unfortunately, they also come with a higher price. The one that I would choose is the Corsair 667MHz, but it is slightly more expensive @ ~$95 here. I don't know much about ram, so I can't tell you about the other brands, but I hear that Corsair is a very reliable brand of ram. OCZ I hear isn't bad either.
    I hope that helps a bit :)

Hey, the MX3414 is basically the same notebook as the MX3410 except that it has MCE, more memort and a bigger hard drive. If u decide to buy the MX3414, tell me how it is ok?

    Thanks!

    Hello,

I have a MX3414, pretty good lappy and will take a hell of a beating too. I have about maxed her out and now need to upgrade her. I am about to get two samsung 1GB DDR2-533 SODIMM chips for her. Be for warned that not all the chip sets out there work in these lap tops.. I run Photoshop 7.0 just fine with about 3 or 4 other programes running and she does ok.. Some lag from time to time her bilt in wireless card works like a dream she picks up lines where no one else can find one. With more Ram this system comes very highly recomended from me.

My poor lappy has been knocked off of three tables and dropped two or three time now and she still works like a champ.

I bought her new from Best buy last Aug. She did have to go in for reapirs. Prior to being dropped or knocked over her mother baord went out as did the key baord but it was all under warrenty and they fixed it for free with out the ext. warrenty in place.. *** GET THE WARRENTY FOR BEST BUY*** I have found that its best, things happen to lap tops that just dont happen to other elct. its worth the extra money. If you cant buy it when you get the lappy hang on to your rept. and go back when you have the money and buy it..

As for games.. I have played WOW, Hero and Villens as well as a 40K game on here and not really had too many issues I think I had to turn down the graphics on Villens but I had it running full tilt on WOW..

One thing about all gateways, buy an extra power supply when you can the cord where it hooks into the back of the system wares out and you will need a new one with in about a year or so..
