It takes like almost 5 minutes to boot up my 7915. Pretty much all I have installed on it since a reformat, is: AOL, Yahoo Messenger, HP printer, Itunes, Limewire, Firefox, Quicktime and that's about it. Don't understand why a brand new computer takes so long to boot up. I took 2 pictures of the list of start up programs, but it won't let me attach em to this message. Also, which programs should i remove? (Out of the programs that came preinstalled) Any help on making it boot faster would be appreciated. Thanks.

AOL, Yahoo messenger and Limewire? Are you still living in the 90s?
AOL - ditch, try something else. Anything else
Yahoo messenger - Try Trillian or move on to gchat or something
Limewire - full of viruii, look into BitTorrent
As for boot times, try running Spybot Search and Destroy and looking under the startup tab. It'll list all programs set to start up on boot and allows you to disable the ones you don't want. -
hummm...the one i have gave me a list of options for installing added software....i installed nothing. and mine boots pretty quick.
that's if your talking about the nv7915u -
As for boot times, you can look into your startup programs that load by using msconfig and looking at the startup tab.
Also a quick test, after your system is booted, bring up task manager and look at how many processes your running. Trimming some of the windows services from auto start to manual can really speed up the boot time. -
+1
msconfig is your friend... -

use imageshack.us
you may not have enough post to do that though...i forget. -
Okay here is a list of the programs in the start up:
Synaptics pointing device driver
realtek hd audio manager
nvidia compatible windows 7 display driver, version 186.52
raid event monitor
power management
googletoolbarnotifier
microsoft windows operating system
aojsvdmb
aol
quicktime
java platform se auto updater 2.0
powerdvd rc service
norton online backup
hpwuschd application
aol service libraries
cyberlink medialibrary service
chicony traybar
adobe acrobat
adobe reader and acrobat manager
itunes
limewire
hp digital imaging
microsoft office xp
That's the whole list. Is any of this necessary for the computer to run? Can anyone tell me out of the list which ones are pretty much mandatory, i just want to try to get the computer to boot up as fast as a can, cause the current 4 minute boot time is killing me. -

are the only ones you need to keep your computer's full functionality. All the others are just bloat-ware.
If you like, I would take the time to read Black Viper's guide to windows services.
http://www.blackviper.com/Windows_7/servicecfg.htm
This is a comprehensive guide to all windows 7 services and their functions, it allows you to determine if there are any you can disable, set to manual, or should leave automatic.
You can find the windows services console by going to Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Services. -
If you run a networked HP printer then you may want to leave the driver for that. The same may be true if you use the sound enhancements of the realtech sound driver.
Best bet is disable what you can from the list and see if you loose functionality you can't live without. Also do a few reboots as you enable each one to see the effect. In the end hopefully you find a good ballance. -
Okay I disabled all but 5 of the start up programs and it made the computer boot way faster, and everything was running fine. a few hours later i turn on my computer and it wont connect to the internet. so i had to use an ethernet cable to connect to the internet, never had this problem before. it says my wireless network connection says not connected. so what do i do? anyone know how to fix this, or should i just call gateway?
-
Does your computer see other wireless networks available to connect? If so it may be a problem with your network.
When you disabled start up items, did you do it through msconfig or did you also disable windows services? If you did the latter, you may have disabled a service related to wireless connectivity. -

Okay guys, i figured out how to fix it. Damn so easy. There is a button on the end of the laptop below the keyboard that says wireless on and off. and i had accidently slid the button to off. i turned it to on and all good. thanks for the help guys.

Funny how that goes sometimes lol. Glad you got it worked out.
Help me make the 7915 run faster...It takes forever to boot up...
