    Good Morning,

Has anyone installed the Intel Turbo Memory Card in their P-6831 FX laptop yet?

I just bought one for $25.00, to give it a try. I installed it, together w/Intel's very latest driver off their website.

The Device Manager sees it, but it has a yellow mark on it, which indicates an issue. Opening up the Properties, all it says is "Not Turn On, Code 10". What the heck is this Code 10. I've searched everywhere, including this forum, but haven't found any answers. I have read that it can take multible reboots, but after some eight (8) reboots, no change.

    Thx.

I was wondering about how the Turbo memory works, a $25.00 upgrade isnt bad if you get alittle boost, and if it works.

If you have like me, followed Vista Tuning Guide under hardware section, it said to disable 'readyboost'. You need this turned back on to make it work properly.

If you use the Turbo Memory, can you still use ready boost? or is it the same thing just inside the laptop? I bought a 4gbsd card a sears last week for $19.00, I was going to use tis for readyboost, I wonder if both can be used?

Damn, I didn't even think about that. I have to wait until I get home from work to give it a try.

    Thx. ;)

With the 1 gb Intel Turbo Memory Card, 512 mb is used for Vista's ReadyBoost, and the other 512 is used for Vista's ReadyDrive.

It's 5300, but has a CL of 4 rather than the normal 5, making it, at least in theory, faster.

I've been using G.Skills in my Alienware laptop for well over a year now, w/o any problems, issues, or failures. On the other hand, I've used Patriot, had it fail twice, w/in three months of installing it, on the same Alienware, so no more Patriot for me.

Excuse my ignorance on this...but in order to use ReadyDrive, don't you have to have a "Hybrid" HDD?

I'm just trying to figure all this out. Is there a specific Intel card, or are we just talking about any Flash based cards?

    Thanks,
    b

With ReadyDrive, it appears your right.

This is a specific card that plugs into the PCI-e slot, next to the Wi-Fi card, on the P-6831 FX. It's only supported on laptops that have the xx965 chipset. Of course the laptop manufacturer may not even support it, like HP for example.

From what I can so far find, it is a Vista error code, having to do w/the allocated memory.

I haven't had any luck w/Gateway, nor Intel. They both say to get in touch w/the other.

GoHack-Thanks for the answer. I just bought a Lexar 8 gig SSD yesterday, and I know I can do Readyboost, but I was hoping to use the rest of it for Readydrive. The whole thing is just confusing me. Do you use 4 gigs for Readyboost? Have you noticed a difference on boot times or general usage?

Also, can we use the Intel card and a SSD simultaneously?

Any luck with getting your Intel card to work?

    Thanks,
    b

I use 4 gb for Readyboost. I haven't really checked it out yet. I've been spending my time on my other upgrades, including my recent Turbo Memory Card.

It's supported by the Intel chipset in the P-68xxFX, but Gateway just hasn't activated it. HP doesn't either, I believe, yet some other manufacturers do.

but if some one says that it will not improve your performance at all.

i haven't try it but i wish some one does ti with gateway lappys so we can se if its worth it

but i don't thing it will have a big impact if you have 4 gigs of ram,

    but who knows

The Turbo Memory Card does not work in the P-6831FX, I've tried it, using the Intel drivers.

    ... but it's your money.

Yes, and they told me to contact Intel, who told me to contact Gateway.

Neither one was of any help.

I haven't read of anyone having any success w/getting the Turbo Memory Card to work on a Gateway P-6831FX.

Besides, if you have more than 1 gb of memory, it won't be of any use anyway.

Your much better investing in more memory, or a Lexar 4 gb ExpressCard SSD Card (ReadyBoost).

Note: ReadyBoost only supports up to a maximum of 4 gb.

As I said before, some laptop manufacturers activated it, while others didn't, because of the debate of it really working.

erm...no. you can use 256mb flash drives for readyboost, so long as they meet the read/write speed requirements. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReadyBoost
unless you are talking about how readyboost can only use up to 4gb, no matter how large the drive
