I've been banging my head into a wall trying to get my DVD burner to work correclty. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is but it is not burning DVD properly.

I first noticed the problem when attempting to make a Recovery DVD. It appeared to write the disk correctly but the creation program continually flashes "Finalizing DVD" in the progress area. I tried to run this program a half dozen time (once for over five hours) and the program never makes anymore progress than this.

I have also tried to burn DVD using the NERO software that comes with the computer. The program shows that the DVD has been successfully burned, but I can not read the burnt DVD on the computer or any other computer.

    Some other info:

    1. I've tried both "+" & "-" DVD's. I've also used to brands Maxell & Memorex
    2. I can burn CD's on this drive and access data from CD's on the drive
    3. I can watch DVD movies on this drive (I don't have any DVD's with other data to test if I can retrieve it).
    4. I've contacted four different CSR at Gateway without any luck. I tried to uninstall/reinstall the drive, I've physically uninstalled/reinstalled the drive, I have searched but cannot find more current drivers.
    5. I've searched for info on the drive (TSST Corp TS-L532A). Some people were have similar problems. Suggestions were given to them to upgrade there Firmware to TI51 but I am already operating with that Firmware.

Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

Yep you can't burn a DVD of the Recovery even though they tell ya you can. I had the same issue, after numerous emails they said its broke. Here is the emails:

Thank you for your e-mail. Regarding your concern if you will order the
recovery disk, you want to know if it will be in CD or DVD. Please be
advice that we can only send you the copy of the recovery disc in CD
format. Also I have read you previous email, I found out that your
trying to create the recovery disc in DVD. Please be informed that you
can only create the recovery disc in CD format, because Windows XP
integrated burning support is for CD format only. For further
information on how to create the recovery disc, please visit the

I made one, too. What's really strange is that the model of DVD+/-RW in my 7510GX is completely different from the one he lists. Mine's an LG-Hitachi (which I had to flash to unlock Dual Layer and DVD-RAM writing...and the region code. ;) )

The firmware for the drive is available here. I take no responsibility if you screw up your optical drive. Just because it worked for me doesn't mean it'll work for you.

Note that the GCA-4080N is what I have, but the firmware for the GSA-4080N is what you'll use.

I have the HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GCA-4080N (0A31) too and doesn't seem to support bitsetting. Does the firmwares from rpc1.org have bitsetting enabled for this writer?

I have the same problem on my 7422GX. The TSST drive is very prone to failure. I want to replace it with a Pioneer DVR-K05. Problem is: I cannot get to disassemble the computer. Does anyone know how to?

From reading the post above it would lead me to believe that Dual Layer support is not enabled by default on the 7510. I have not tried burning any dvd's yet, but when I do is that going to be enabled by default. Or will I have to flash the firmware? Guess it probably depends on which DVD player the machine shipped with, but if they were going to replace the original dvd rom with another half way through production you would think they would have to give you one with at least the same if not better specs. And I thought that when I bought my machine it was advertised as dual layer. But if you have to flash the firmware with something you may not trust is that really something they can advertise in the specs?

My 7510GX also has the HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GCA-4080N optical drive and I was wondering if anyone has made progress with bitsetting/booktype setting. Would be really nice to be able to burn my +r discs in the rom bitsetting. Thanks for any advice!

Most DVD players nowadays shouldn't have any problems reading +R discs. I would suggest some high quality media.

What drive is it? You can google it and find the specs.

I have a GCA-4080N. I have attached a screen shot of Everest. Specs here don't mention anything about Dual Layer support.

I saw this post, but I'm unsure if this firmware flash is required for unlocking dual layer support, or if this is just to get support for all regions. I have not tried dual layer burning yet for myself because I don't wanna go spend money on discs and find out I can use them. Help! My system is the exact same model listed here in that post so I'm hoping that its supported. But again, not sure if they had to flash the firmware to unlock that feature.

I have been having the same problem with my 7510GX where the Nero Software that came with the computer burns the dvd disc and says that it burned correctly but won't show any data on the disc if i put it back int hte computer or any other computer.

    My drive is a TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532A and i'm using Maxwell Dvd-R.
