I just purchased a used Mt3707 laptop. It had windows vista on it. i noticed after i got it that the wireless did not work and after you put it in sleep it would not wake up with out restarting the computer.. I thought it was a vista thing. so I had my brother install XP.. and we are having the same issues. Followed other peoples progress from this site on changing to XP on this computer using the same drivers and such. so my question is what else could it be? that would cause the wireless not to activate.. and the sleep problem too.. if it goes into standby it wont come back out unless restarted.. if you hit restart through windows when it comes back the screen is black as well... any ideas? I would really appreciate any help.

have you updated your video drivers to the latest ones from the manufacturers website (im assuming ati radeon xpress 200m since thats what my mt3705 is). gateway doesnt let you use ati's installers so you have to manually install drivers. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=178020 my last post on that topic tells you how to update video drivers, at least it worked for me. that could help the black screen.

for sleep issues and wireless problems i would say to install all the vista hotfixes for your version but you are on xp. does everything check out ok in device manager for your wireless card? not reporting any problems? on my mt3705 i was getting a BSOD after resuming from sleep or hibernation and the only thing that fixed it was a clean install i did when i got my new hdd. before my wireless wouldnt work after resuming from sleep or hibernate but a hotfix cured that problem. i would try a clean install of vista and update all your drivers before installing any software or anything.

thanks for the info.. the screen works fine all the time.. other than when trying to return from sleep. in devise manager it reads Generic Marvell Yukon Chipset based Gigabit Ethernet Controller. I wipped the whole hard drive and installed windows XP everything works but the wireless problem and sleep problem.. both were problems when i got the computer when vista was installed.
