Greetings,
I'm having trouble finding some drivers for my Gateway MX8739 for Windows XP with Service Pack 2. This laptop, purchased from Best Buy, originally came with Windows Vista but I formatted the hard drive and put XP SP2 instead. I was able to find most of the drivers without a problem but I'm still missing:
Ethernet Controller (Either the modem or wired network controller, not sure which)
and
PCI Device (Absolutely sure this is the sound card)
The wireles network controller is real buggy, but working. It's a Realtek RTL8187B (or at least those are the drivers I am using). I'm not sure if they are the correct ones.
Anyway, if anyone could provide me with any help in finding these drivers for XP I'd greatly appreciate it.
Here is the link to Gateway's page about this model: http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/2007/SonicC/1014612R/1014612Rnv.shtml
Also, I've looked on Intel site, because I believe the board is an Intel.

If anyone has any sites that may tell me what kind of Sound Card this computer has that'll help. The reason I couldn't find the drivers is because I don't think I could even find out what type of sound card it's using.
And if anyone has an MX series maybe you could just tell me what kind of sound card and network controller you are using. I imagine the MX series is using similar components across the board.
Not having sound blows. -
I just did this (Vista to XP) with an MX8741, virtually the same model. The wireless Realtek drivers can be found at Realtek:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...n=5&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false&Downloads=true
which contains drivers for all Windows versions (scroll down to the 8187B).
The sound is a Sigmatel audio, and you can find the drivers at Gateway by browsing recent XP models that specify a sigmatel card. Or, a Google may find it also. If you can't find it, you can email me and I'll send you the sound drivers that work.
MS update also has an update for the wireless that's newer than the Realtek site one; I'm not sure if it's an improvement or not (yet). The only issues I've had have been with windows updates giving an annoying error, and I'm reasonably sure it was the wireless that caused it, as I never see the error when connected via the ethernet. With the wireless off, it never happens, so if it starts happening again, and various older or newer drivers don't help, I may use my old wireless card...to me, having XP on it is worth it overall.
The Vista was OK, but seemed like a machine with not enough memory, though I have 2GB. I had shut off UAC to end the annoying messages, and it was somewhat tolerable, but XP is nice and zippy.
