so the purpose creating that recovery cd in gateway recovery centre is only to gain access to the D drive??

In the amount of time you try to figure this out you could have reinstalled everything just like it was new, and played Crysis a few times.

looks like a fresh reinstall and proper recovery set up is on the way for me. I like to tackle these problems, fortunately, a fresh reinstall seems to be the better path to me now.

    thanks for the help guys..

yeah....im inclined to agree, but!...yes, there is allways a but with us *nosey, want to understand, can't let it go, have to understand why it didn't work, find the working solution, fix the problem, give our selves high fives....then..........do a factory reinstall because something else crashed...lmao

you know that is the standard operation and procedure. :D

I had the same problem with my M6846, I tried to run the system recovery on the HD with no luck, I did a fresh install, but left that damn partition, I guess I was in denial. I would wipe the d partition when doing the fresh install, I think it takes up 14g, what a wast of space.

i just cant bring myself to do it...that 7 gigs it is using compared to the 300 plus gigs im not even using.... yep..that 6.7 gigs is safe with my system. if i decide to sell, i just load the factory system and remove my upgrades and call it a day. (probably not going to happen like that any time soon, but i just like to have that option handy)

and it's there for me to help others find it.... :D

hit it right on the nose there :) I decided to give it one last try after reading that and low and behold, i got to boot off D and the factory reinstall initiated. Im back to factory settings and in the process of backing up D:\Recovery to DVD. I did this with Paragon. :)
