Sorry if this has been asked but had a couple of questions about the P-6860 from Best Buy. My friend got one a week or so ago and is having problems with it. I told him I would try to help but dont think I know enough of the basics.

    1. On the box it says it is a 64bit system - do you need to do anything with it to make it that way or is the 64 bit part installed when you pick it up from store
    ?
    2. Where would one find a new video driver for this? The date on the driver is from November 07. (xxx.6746) He tried downloading one from a link that someone on these forums had but it said something about a 64 bit driver on a 32 bit system or something like that. Hence question #1
    3. He tried to play Crisis and it locks up pretty quickly. I told him that he would most likely need a better cpu than the stock and he may order one from New Egg. I thought the Crisis patch and an updated video driver might help a little until he decides on what cpu he would order. (at least play with low to medium settings until new cpu is ordered?

    Thank you folks.

p.s. I see in the Vista experience screen that it says a 64 bit op system. Is that proof that it is installed and active or just that it is capable of 64 bit. I ran dxdiag thinking I would see 64 bit somewhere but no.
pss. after at least downloading the crisis patch it seems to have made things worse - mouse and display issues.

    The P-6860FX comes pre-installed with Vista x64.

To update the video driver, I went to laptopvideo2go.com and downloaded their 175.50 driver (didn't use the modded inf). To get the driver to install, you need to clean the old driver off your system; I think the site has instructions for doing this with some kind of driver cleaner program, however I think I just used the control panel. Anyway, you need to replace the nvdisp.inf file included by default with nvwi.inf in the originalinfs.zip which is one of the files extracted from running the downloaded driver executable. Then run the driver setup program and the driver should install normally.

Other people seem to be able to run the game without issues on their 6860's so if worse comes to worse, I'd run the apps and driver recovery program to create the recovery DVD and then re-format the main partition and re-install from scratch using the Gateway OS DVD and the recovery DVD you created.

Thanks Starcub. Apparently he was able to load another driver he found using a link from these forums (7.15.11.7485) He said that Crisis plays better but locks up (goes to the options screen) somewhat frequently if he tries to push the settings even a little. I am not sure if he installed the driver on top of the drivers already present, or if he uninstalled driver first. (I am betting he did not). I will pass on your info and thank you very much.
