Hello there, I'm the owner over a less than a month old gateway 6860. Just the other day i turned it on to find that the machine had been sort of locked up in that i couldnt click anything, though i could move the mouse around and type just fine. I now am experiencing lag spike that take the cpu usage from 4-15% up to around 90% for a couple seconds. In this time, i am able to move my mouse around, and if im playing a game the game runs fine except that i cant click and abilities of mine. One especially unusal thing is that if i open up task manager, Just open it and not even end any tasks, the lag goes away for a few minutes. I've scanned my computer, disable automatic updates and even gone back to a restore point before i was experiencing these cpu spikes, to no avail! Can anyone help me with this issue? I don't wan to be quick to run it down to the local computer shop.

Have you tried unplugging the mouse and just using the touchpad?

I have, Still unable to use anything when the spikes happen. I'm going to restore factory setting today, I didn't have many files on it to begin with. If that doesn't fix the issue then I know that it's a hardware issue and I get to take it back and get a brand new one! Wooohoooo!
