When i first purchased my 7811fx I used to max out my GPU temps @ about 75 Celsius. A Few years later my Hwmonitor reads 100 celsius after just 40 min on L4d2!!!!!! Needless to say i need to cool this puppy down.

I bought a targus cooling pad but it makes no noticeable difference. Is my cooling compound on the GPU is dissipating? Are my fans busted? Is there a how to guide on How to apply Arctic Silver 5 guide? Is there a better new compound on the market? Im going to use the disassemble guide for this laptop. Im new at this so any input will help. Thanks For Reading

Hi I had a similar problem on my laptop. (p-6860)
GPU temps were going N of 95C.

    Turned out to be dust.
Now, I had turned my computer off and blown compressed air into the orange vent multiple times and it didn't help - and so I was pretty sure that wasn't the problem - but someone on here said they were convinced it was the problem so I tried again with more determination.

I spent a good 3 minutes blasting in air into those vents (not continuous for 3 minutes, but you get the idea). I tried not to spin the fan too much.

Anyway, about 2 minutes in I noticed a big cloud of dust spurt out, and then again a little bit later.
And then my temps dropped back down to normal which for me is 42C idle and 65-69C under load.

I just hope you try a concerted effort at cleaning out the dust with compressed air (with the computer off) prior to attempting to take the whole thing apart (which isn't that easy - i've done it, but i don't want to do it again).

Hope this helps and dust ends up being your issue.

I'm sure you know to blow the dust out of your fans. I recently dropped about 20C by doing it. Yes, I waited too long. I didn't think that much came out but can't argue with success. Undervolting helps also. Getting at the fans to actually clean them would do wonders but I'm not up for it. I found the pads do little, maybe a degree or two.
