ya, you'll have to do the same, since we both ordered late on tue, and both of us paid for 1-2 day shipping we should get them the same day.
-
-
I think the only reason I had luck with HP parts was because I ordered while there was plenty of stock and I didn't post or advertise the deal until after I bought one myself. Other then that, great deal you guys found. Its just really to bad that we never could get a quad to work.
-
I would love a i7 cpu notebook
-
I would love a hyper-threaded dual core, but dreams are meant to be dreamed.
-
-
I have to re order from HP because the other site is out of stock, Im tired of going back and forth, I just can't seem to find one that is in stock and a decent price.
-
Sorry to hear that. I must have got one of the last. Got my confirmation this morning. They sent a tracking number, but you know UPS....nothing posted yet. Sorry it didn't work out for you. Did they give you any idea when they would restock them and be able to send it out?
-
lol no they have no idea when they will be back in stock so according to HP I should get mine on the 5th of nov which is like next thr. I'm kinda pissed but ohh well I can wait a week. You'll have to let me know how bad a** the T9900.
-
Just got it delivered today. Same thing as pictured from HP. Pretty neat, will try to get time to install tonight. Have to check the forum on installation as I don't want to screw this up. Boy! Good luck on your HP order and let me know how it goes.

Here is a good video of how to replace the CPU from Cappers5016 (someone on this site)
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Capper5016&search_type=&aq=f
Oh ya one question Banjo, does the cpu come with one of those Intel Core Duo 2 oem stickers to replace the centrino 2 sticker that comes stock on this notebook? -
AGlobalThreatsK Notebook Evangelist
There is no need to "replace" the Centrino 2 sticker, your laptop will ALWAYS have Centrino 2 technology. -
Ohhh hahaha thanks for clearing that up for me.
-
Just got it installed. Pretty straightforward. They sure give you alot thermal grease to put on it. Pre-determined by them. Followed their instructions abouy applying it.
Been running around 30-32 C after it's been on awhile. 27-28 C when you first start-up. Going to give it a few days for the grease to work in. Definitely loads faster.(Course have Win 7 Ultimate RTM 64 bit running on it and that in it's self makes everything smoother.)
I will update you after I get some time to run a few games. -
Ohh wow those temps are way lower than what I have on the P8400, my temps right now and I'm just playing on the net and my temps are 30-37C depending on the program (Everest Ultimate or CPUPID Hardware monitor) and the T9900 is way more powerful and with Artic Silver my temps should be pretty good....well at least i hope so lol.
-
I haven't had time to stress test yet, hope to do that this week-end. Will put prime on it for 8-10 hours and see how it goes! Heard anything on your DD from HP. That whole experience with them left "a bad taste in my mouth". LOL, maybe it will come due for you.
-
Est. ship date is on Nov 6th (next friday) I hope it ships like on thr or something so I can get it before next weekend. Banjo you seem to have had good luck finding the T9900 for a decent price, did your search find anything other websites selling the T9900 for around the same price as HP?
-
Other sites sell the T9900 for 500 bucks or more. Then again the mobile processors seem to have that type of price difference across the board. I can get a T9600 retail from Amazon for $330 shipped. Yet at Newegg it costs over $500
-
Ya, I saw Newegg's price a day or so ago i was like, well I can wait a week and save about $200. Im not gonna pay over $500 for a CPU. I'll wait for them to ship it.
-
Stick with HP for the price, as the only other people I found you already have tried. Another thought is to call HP, complain a little and see if they will expediate your order.Won't hurt,
-
Where u able to run some benchmarks? Was it worth updating?
Update: Well HP took the money out of my bank account so I assume my CPU may ship Monday morning, them taking the whole amount out is a good sign that the product is ready or about to ship as Amazon, New Egg and such companies do the same. Hoping to get it tue! No update on the HP website still says Nov. 6th. I'll keep you updated. -
I purchased one today. Thanks for this thread. I would have gone with a T9800 for nearly the same price if this wasn't here.
I'll let you guys know when it comes in. -
Whats your ship date from HP? Ya I think this is a great price for the T9900 that's why I jumped on it.
-
I just ordered. I got a confirmation but I don't have a ship date yet. I'm not really worried about it. As long as its not 3 weeks I will be happy when it comes in.
I'm curious how much improvement I am going to get. It seems like the cache size change is the biggest improvement as part of the change. I'm really happy though to finally be taking the plunge on this change. -
No, haven't had time to do much of anything with it. It definitely loads faster and allows you to do more things at the same time.As I said, runs pretty cool, but when I get time I will run Prime on it. If they charged your cc I would think they must be ready to send it out.LOL.
-
It says november 5th it will be shipped. I'm wondering if you guys think the grease that comes in the kit is fine or if I need to go with AS5 or other. The temperatures that someone reported in the thread sounded great to me since they are somewhat less than my current P8400.
-
AGlobalThreatsK Notebook Evangelist
Don't expect your temps to be the same, there are way too many variables.
You don't NEED AS5 or ICDiamond. They are high quality thermal compounds that are an upgrade compared to the low quality thermal compound provided free by most other manufacturers. I would not expect the provided paste to be up to par with ICDiamond or AS5. If you want to test it you can do some R&D and test and compare results. -
do local places ever carry those?
-
great the ship date is now the 10th, im gonna call this is getting annoying.
-
So I will stay in line here at HP Store for the $339 price until it ships and if something better comes along in the meantime I may cancel and pounce on that. -
Evil Claw,
If you find somewhere else that has it in stock for that price let me know because Im in the same boat as you. I called HP and they say the 16th but the website says the 10th. Im hoping it comes soon or I may cancel altogether. -
I mean you can buy i7 820 QM/1.733 ghz chip for that kind of money, so maybe a lappy switch might be in order.
I will wait out the $339 price for the chip on HP. I am in no real hurry. -
I agree, I wouldn't pay $500 for the T9900 but for $339, that isn't too bad for a plus $500 processor.
-
Hey xarthos, I used the thermal compound they sent with it. They tell you to use all of it on the processor. It seemed like alot but it seems to work as the processor runs pretty cool. I had AS5 available, but decided to try theirs first. Worked out good.
Strife10134..Did you CB that place where I got mine? They might have gotten it back in stock. Doesn't hurt to check. Nov. 16th seems like an aweful long time ...especially when they had the 5th as a ship date.LOL. -
-
The website says the 10th. I tried the other place but they were out of stock and says they get the CPU from HP and HP is out of stock. I was charged on my debt card but the money was put back in so it seems as far as I know that it may ship out next week....at least that's what I'm hoping for.
-
Mine still says the 5th. I guess it just hasn't updated yet.
-
Know that feeling! Sounds just like the "bull" HP was feeding me (their Indian call center) before I cancelled. I actually got that other places number from them. I had talked to a supervisor at their "Costa Rico" (considered their USA center) call center and he suggested I try them, even gave me the number. He was also very helpful and honest about the delivery date. Maybe you should try them, I was able to reach them by calling early in the day.
Yeah, I think you are really going to like this cpu. I'm finding it really does make the lappy alot faster. Kinda nice not have to wait for long periods of time before a program loads. Starting to use it more then my desktop. (Q6600 OC'd 3.2 GHZ, 8 gig ddr2-8500 mem, 2X320 Segate drives in Raid0,ATI Sapphire HD3870 1 gig card, Win 7 Ultimate x64, tweaked out).
Now it's time to start tweaking the laptop since this upgrade, already did the 2nd HD in raid 0, installed the Intel wifi5300 w/3rd antenna wire, added the bluetooth card, Win 7 Ultimate x64. Was considering doing a blue ray dvd,who knows? -
@ banjo...Been following this post and I also ordered this cpu. Apparently I am due to receive it sometime after the 11th. So when you say " alot faster " aside from the program load times, in general, what are some of the other ways in which you notice any improvement?
I am also planning on adding the bluetooth card, did you use the dell 370 that so many others on this forum have or something else, any issues with drivers?
One last thing...why the need to change to Intel wifi5300...what is the benefit to using dual band? Thanks in advance. -
I really haven't had the time to run benchmarks or anything, but it seems the perfect fit for this laptop. doesn't hesitate like it used to, handles more open programs smoother, games play snappier, no lock-up's anymore, etc. Just overall better performance.
Haven't decided on which bluetooth card yet?
Increase in downloads. With the 5100 I was limited to 150 Mbps and short range. Used to get dropped alot. With the 5300 I get a constant 300 Mbps and much better range.(whole house instead of just downstairs, even out on the back deck.) Haven't got dropped yet. I guess the 3rd ant. increased the range along with the card. -
banjo,
My desktop has a Q6600 cpu, how did you overclock it to 3.2 Ghz? Still no update from HP yet, I think I will just wait and not cancel. I am starting to play Dragon Age and it uses 100% of the cpu and I see a little lag when I am moving people around, the T9900 should smooth all that out I hope. -
Sounds good and in general was what I was hoping for in terms of improvement. Originally last year when I bought this laptop I knew the CPU was the weak point and figured it would be a matter of time till I swapped it out.
I think after reading your post about the intel 5100 I too will make this upgrade since it definitely sounds like it would be worth it. Just wondering, is it just a straight swap with the present card, or do I need to do something within the OS first?
I have been building and modding my own desktops for years (since Win 98 days) so am completely comfortable messing around in that environment. But first time I had a laptop with so many options for making upgrades etc...so forums like these are awesome!!! Thanks for the info. -
Stife1013...Anandtech.com has a great "sticky" on overclocking the Q6600.(SLCAR) Guide V1.7. I have a Gigabyte EX-x38-DS4 MB which makes it even easier. Had it higher but didn't like the temp's. Made me nervous. Felt safer with it at 3.2 ghz. Give the article a read, it is pretty much straight forward. Just take your time and give it a few try's at different settings. Each CPU is different when it comes to OC'ing.LOL.
Hey GDA13..the upgrade on the wifi card is one of the least expensive and probably shows the most results except for this T9900. I routed the 3rd wire up into the LCD along side of the other 2.(Bought the wires on e-bay, still have a couple left over.) Uses the same drivers as the 5100, but I went to Intel and downloaded the newest along with their manager. Removed "zero config" as manager, went into Intel's and maxed out the settings. Good to go! It really was not hard to split the LCD apart. Just take your time and don't over apply pressure when removing. I googled it for directions and found a good "pictured tutorial" on the FX7811. Same thing as ours. I think they have it on here also.
I'm thinking of the "Broadcom" Bluetooth card. I think it looks most like OEM. Just not sure yet. LMK on the Dell 370 if you do it! -
ok guys this has gone from pretty awesome to freaking hilarious this morning.

Best regards,
So I went to the website not even sure if this email was for real or what and now the estimated ship date says 11/18/09. Freaking hilarious. I have a ticket number in through the online deal. I love the tracking number part of the email. -
Yep, I just checked on my status online and it has given me a tracking number, etc..shipped on the 9th. I didn't receive an email notification though.
It looks as though we are gettin' it!!! -
-
Mine shipped, I don't have a tracking number, hoping to get it today. I'm gonna have to call and get a tracking number. I didn't get an email.
-
-
I've got another ticket in after calling. Guy said the parts department has been slack lately and the ball is rolling now. So I am actually supposed to get an email tomorrow with a tracking number. The email I received was based on a previous ticket and was really funny. At first I thought it was just spam mail.
Glad to hear we are getting some progress on people's orders though. That is good.
Still no tracking data other than estimated is up to the 11/18/09 date. No tracking number.
I'm sure it will get pushed since the guy said there had been lots of complaints about parts orders and they were trying to correct the problem. -
I just got my cpu, so no need to get the tracking number lol.
-
I should get mine tomorrow.
