    How do I find value of notebook?

    I shipped my Dec 2007 Gateway NX500XL with Vista upgrade to my daughter. The OS wouldn't work when it got there and couldn't be reloaded. The shipping co. took the computer and wants me to furnish proof of the cost of an identical notebook in good condition. Any ideas how I go about getting that?

    I would see if that computer was offered on Ebay and then copy the info (price and computer info and date obtained) for that shipping company.

    On machines that are 4 years old it is a tough question. Most computers are not designed for a useful life past that age. Now if it were a high end item of thaat age there may be more information available but an econo system of that age, well gogle it and you will see there is little info out there.

    Wish you would have come here with the original issue of no OS install, we may have been of more help with that issue................

    Yup, too old. I did a eBay search for your computer and nothing turned up. Lots of parts offered though. You might try Craiglist also.
