I made a restore back up disc (two actually, since it required 2 dvds for some odd reason) and I have no idea how you use it. There's no .exe file in the disc. Just a couple of folders, BOOT, EFI, GAIA, IMAGES, SOURCES, and some random files. I'm sure some people here got it to work, so, any pointers?

They're used by putting them in your drive and using them at bootup.

Oh, at bootup? Didn't think the computer would be smart enough to do that. Is it still usable if I removed the recovery partition?

And under the gateway recovery program, can I still use the restore to factory setting if I deleted the partition?

Yep, at bootup. Basically you made a Vista 64bit disc.

You can delete the recovery partition and the discs will still work, but the restoring from the gateway recovery program wont because there will be no files for it to restore off of.

Thanks! Quite helpful! One last question, do I need the 2nd restore disc at all for the format/restore process?

The DVD-R's you burned it to has a 4.7GB limit. The Recovery file was 8GB+. Thats the only reason you had to use two.
When you go to use them to restore you're system, you will need to use the first disc, than when it gets to the end of the data on that disc, you'll be prompt to put disc 2 in.
    Just like in multi-disc games.

So yeah, Mark the first disc as "Disc 1" and the second as "Disc 2" and you'll be good to go.
Also, did you make the "Apps and Drivers" disc or just the "Factory Default" discs?

Just factory defaults. I can always download the drivers (and probably more up to date also) from the website. Or at least that's what I figured. Stick em on a usb stick after Vista is done installing. Should be ok I hope.

Alrighty. Always better to make the apps/drivers disc though. Never know when you might need it...
