Until I discovered this forum, I didn't even know that ATI had an answer to Nvidia's 78XX 88XX 98XX GT series--
So how does the 9800M GTS (1GB) to the ATI Crossfire (is it a dual 512MB card, or do you have a second card to blow the NVIDIA card out of the water)?
Thanks!

have you seen the GPU Guide?
dual high-end cards will beat single high-end cards.
and videomemory means NOTHING.... it does not affect performance at all.
video memory is more of a gimmick, especially if its more than 512MB for a 256-bit memory interface GPU (like Nvidia 9800M / ATI 3800) -
ATI 4650 > Nvidia 9600 GT
ATI 4850 > Nvidia 9800 GTS
ATI 3650 < Nvidia 9600 GT
ATI 3850 < Nvidia 9700 GT
Dual of any card will basically always beat a single of another card. Corssfire & SLI both mean "multiple cards", for ATI and Nvidia, respectively. As Gophn said, people think the video memory is important. Anything more than 256 MB is more than ample. having 1GB vs 256MB makes little difference. The speed of that memory is much more important, which most consumers do not grasp. -
And why the bee-jeepers is this in the Gateway & eMachines section???

I just wanted to know how it compares to the ATI (due to Gateway's hemming and hawing about the BIOS support for overclocking, quad support, I've been hopping forums to check the alternatives).
Yes, it's been awhile since I've owned a laptop(I've owned laptops but never cared about GPUs before, until I met Vista's crappy way of randomly slowing down for no apparent good reason) and cared about gaming performance-
So, I'm a newbie and perhaps do represent the percentage of people that mistake "more is better."
So I'm guessing 512MB for VRAM is sufficient. Speed is more important.
I do have some cash to burn, as well as work to go along with it (creating a virtual network of VMs).
So while the 7805u I have is great for now, I just want to see how far I can take this brand, or switch, if need be-- -

This site is very helpful i have learned a ton and see I didnt know the memory didnt mean much with GPU's
How does the 9800M GTS 1gb compare with ATI Crossfire?
