I got one of those 1440x900 native res. Average price on ebay for Gateway 7811 replacement LCD is $163 approx- or $174 shipped.

Choice of Sharp, LG, AOU, or Samsung (any ideas which one the best?)

Has anyone tried upgrading ther 7805u LCD screen? I saw E-wrecked's posted link for upgrading the LCD, but I just can't believe it would be that easy (about 5-6 pics)--

    Thanks!

The actual installation shouldn't be too hard. The biggest trouble is to be careful with the screen itself as they are rather fragile and break easily if not handled with care.

I've replaced the screen on my Toshiba P205 and it's basically the same process. The hardest part about replacing the monitor is unlocking the bezels. They're basically forcefully locked in by plastic, and it's really easy to break them. You want something like a guitar pick (NOT a credit card) to wedge them open slowly. After that, everything else is really simple.

There are so many threads about the 7805u and a 1920x1200 screen. Why would someone shell out ~$180 for a 1920x1200 on top of the price they paid for their 7805u's? You can buy a 7801u for the same price from Tigerdirect after a Cashback discount with a guaranteed 1920x1200 lcd!

Forget it... I'm not commenting on such threads anymore. People just prefer to waste time and money.

I got my 7805u $996 at BB. To return this would mean 15% restocking fee plus $1300 plus $25 shipping fee(from tigerdirect). Figure out the math and tell me which one is cost effective-

it might be a silly question but I'm planning on buying 7805u because my np5720 finally bit the dust so i was wondering since the screen on the np5720 is 1920x1200 does anyone know if it might be compatible with 7805u???

What's the name of the mfr for your screen?

NP5720 is Sager, correct? Go to ebay, search for Sager, and ask the seller which mfr do their 17" screens come from. There's a 50-50 chance that it is same as the ones below:

Sharp, LG, AOU, or Samsung - these are compatible with 7805u.

You might be better off selling yours on ebay, then get the 78XX compatible one.

I'm still waiting for someone to take a try with a WU5 LG panel, and see if it's actually possible to put an LED-backlit one in. I'm worried about the inverter, though.

Also, before an upgrade to Minefield x64 happened, I had a bookmark to a place called "Bliss Computers" in NJ that sold "certified" screen replacements for different notebooks.

I have to tell you my screen upgrade story+ some good advice, first, I have a P6831FX (1440x900) that I wanted to upgrade to 1920x1200, and ended up on Ebay doing all the homework I could before pulling the trigger. I found that what you see on Ebay is NOT what they will send you. I called most sellers to see if they had the LG model I wanted, and although online they said they had them, and would take the order, they in fact didn't have them. So, in that case they send you any panel they deem compatable, and hope you go away. I ordered from DVDsuper1 on Ebay, a glossy panel, and they sent me a Matte, I complained, and their response was: It's OK, it's compatible with you machine. (I never told them what laptop I had, I ordered by part #), So I sent it back, they told me they would send me the correct one, instead sent me a used Samsung that didn't even work, so I ended up paying $20 to ship back both panels and many calls to get my card credited back from these idiots. Plus, I found that most advertise new panels, and are actually used pulls. It seems they really don't know what panel they are shipping to you. DO NOT order from DVDsuper1 whatever you do, unless you're into brain damage. The good news: I found and bought my panel from laptoppartswarehouse.com (Florida) a LP171WU3 TL B3, and they got it out to me in 2 days. I think it was about $172. Absolutely a sweet panel, well worth the hassle. And the owner David, went and hand picked my panel from his stock, while I waited on the phone! (by that time, I didn't trust anybody) Stay away from Ebay - And it's a 30-45 min job, you use your stock inverter and everything else. Good Luck!
