I am interested in the M-152XL

I was wondering, how good is the build of gateway laptops? They last atleast 2.5-3 years? Any major problems? Motherboard are usually good?

    Thx

    cool

some models are better built (or better looking) than others. Same goes for any brands/models. Perception is that gateway tendering to low cost comps - which can affect how one thinks about its models

we have 2 in the family, the famous M68xx and M505 series. They are still running with full power, beating out many of the newer models. Just one of those things, once in a while u hit the jackpot, other times a lemon.

    cheers ...

    The build is quite good.
I build custom pc's for Nvidia to take to shows and they give me alienware and Dell XPS laptops to use and i'll put my gateway 172S FX against either of them.

    Above average

The odm is a small company named foxconn which makes the 15 inch apple macbook.
No other gateway notebook has this odm its not comparable.

As far as consumer notebooks I can tell you its built a million times better than the bottom level asus notebooks like the m51. It is close to the same as the higher grade consumer notebooks like the asus g1 and the m50. Very similar to the m50 and its a much better deal.
it is also relatively thin and light. Hinge is rock solid lcd has no flex

My lcd has quite a lot of bleed on the bottom, but I got a customer return machine its possible some dont.
overall its a steal. Doesnt heat up either but it is hotter than my asus notebook.

One small grade lesser than an hp dv9000 but above a vostro or anything like that.

Spoken from someone who has NEVER even touched this model. OP, disregard his comment as he is simply guessing.

OP, you have to understand how to ask questions in these forums. When asking a question similar to this you MUST add something like "Please ONLY people who own this model". If you dont add this comment you will end up in this situation of people who have never even touched this model and are simply guessing. This is a notorious issue in these forums.

    Only because you're stalkworthy. :D

    @ Grimster

Out of curiosity, have you handled this model?

I've handled the other M series-X notebooks, not sure if they have the same build.

it is written in the hd bay by where the hd connects.

foxconn makes the macbook air the ipod nano and 15 inch macbook pro.

the tech person heard that quanta makes some gateway notebooks so he assumed they make them all probably.

to tell you the truth i suspect he said Quanta because i mentioned Quanta when I was asking him about him; when I was trying to explain what ODMs are.

Well he actually said "Quinta" but corrected himself after i was like wth? =P

I'm glad I caught this thread....
Personally I like fujitsu's but I just happened to stumble across a couple of retail model gateways...i like this one that had a turion in it....
I was wondering if gateway sticks with the same vendors like fujitsu and alot of toshiba's...if so who do they mostly use for Hd's, dvd drives, and lcd's??
    which does your model have?

I personally think this model is pretty good. I'm actually using that particular model now, and have no no problems with it since purchase.
