I'm just wondering if anybody has had any major problems with this notebook.

I've become a bit inconfident in notebooks as my only other laptop was a complete disaster. It was the Asus Z71V and I had so many problems with it, that I can't even remember them all.

I'll list a few problems that I can recall the Z71V total nightmare which I customized for $2200.

    - after a few months, my battery capacity lowered by about 5% each day until it lasted only 5 minutes

    - I had my battery replaced with a "newly designed" battery as the first shipment of batteries were officially recognized as defective, and the replacement battery was defective too, but the one year warranty was up and they said it the warranty was over...sorry...

    - my video card died

    - my motherboard died

    - my keyboard went haywire, I would hit keys but other letters and symbols would come out when I typed...they replaced my motherboard and keyboard, but even after that I still had the same problem

    - the DC power jack died 3 times

    - I went through 4 power adapters because they kept on heating up so much it would burn your hand to touch them so they each died out, one power adapter had sparks showing when I plugged it in and with all of the adapters I smelled burning plastic when I was charging the notebook

    - and the before I gave up on the Z71V, the connector on the motherboard for the GPU fan died out completely and my video card would heat up to 128C on idle

Soon after that my Z71V wouldn't power up with the new power adapter I bought. I was very angry because my 3 year warranty was up and Asus brushed me off. But at the same time, I strangely felt relieved that the 3 years of agony were over for good.

my friend has a 6864 that he takes on tour with him. he's had it for a good 5 months and hasn't had any problems with it aside from having to fresh install when he downloaded some corrupted files. I guess that isn't really the lappy's fault though :D

Mine was originally purchased back in September 2008 and it has not had any problems. I will be upgrading mine with a Intel Extreme X7900 CPU running @ 2.9GHz soon, just waiting for it to come in. In the future I also plan on upgrading the optical drive to a BluRay model and maybe even upgrading the screen to a non-glossy 1680 x 1050resolution model. I hope this helps. God Bless :)

I have a non-glossy 1680 x 1050 panel from my Z71V. But it's loaded with dead pixels, isn't bright, sparkles and has some major light leakage going on....

    I do miss the extra desktop space though. It's hard going from 1680 x 1050 to 1280 x 800.
