I've been reading about the overheating problems with the 7811 here since I recently bought one. Its made me a bit paranoid, so I logged data today.

I ran the Nvidia System Monitor today during 90 minutes of NeverWinterNights 2 play, graphics set to medium high settings. The heat on the GPU stays around 61C to 66C, peaked briefly at 69C once, and very occasionally hits 68C.

Is this a good temperature range? At what temperature does stability suffer, and at what temp does potential damage occur?

Megan Fox is too hot for the 7811's GPU.

Your temps on the other hand are cool and easy to deal with :p

My GPU peaks at 54 with my Cryo LX ;)

But anyway, 69 is fine, lots of people have had 98C...

mine idles around 36-44 either with stock or 710/910/1720, and under heavy load (oced and playing gta 4 on all high settings, after 3-5 hours of playing) WHILE lappy is lifted (back and front), never seen more than 90-92. Thats what hwmonitor max tab reports. I doubt it stays that high. I would say 78-85. Thats not that bad. As long it does not stay at 90-105, i think its fine.... isn't it?

edit: now running ati tool, i will post results soon.

edit2: after 1 hour ati tools testing, 92c. But after first 40 mins it reached 90, then dropped to 88 for few mins and last in last 20 mins it reached 92.

I never hit anything above 73C, even during stress tests and playing games (Crysis, WC3, etc). Crysis loads my GPU more than all my stress tests...lol :p

I take everyone has some sort of notebook cooler or the notebook elevated? As well as ambient temps should be taken into account. For me, my GPU loads around 76C-77C and that's with the back propped. Ambient temp is around 21C.

I use my laptop gremlins, assuming they arent busy cleaning the dust off of my rig.

If you dont happen to have an army of laptop gremlins (you should look into getting some) I suggest following royk50's suggestion and use HWMoniter

I'm getting temps as high as 102 while playing Crysis! WHY are they so high? I've tried several different driver variations. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

The MBP's 9600m gt is stable at that temp. Fans still don't kick in though, you have to force them on. I don't know what Apple was thinking there.

Ive had my 7805 hit 105. It used to go that high when using ati tool. I sent it in and they replaced the heatsink and now Im getting the same temps as you. BTW could that 150C have done any unoticeable damage or something? I hope not. Anyways ur temps are good and lol @ other side of pillow XD.

9800m GTS' temperature threshold is 105C. A FULLY FUNCTIONAL Gateway laptop with the 9800m gts should be hitting 85 max. Anything beyond that is due to the environment it is being used in (no ac or room is quite humid) or the laptop is defective.

I put it in the exact same spot as it was when it was 105 and is now not getting anything higher than 67. I even had it elevated 20 centimeters off the table with legos and a fan underneath but now it hasnt surpassed 67 and is barely elevated and I use it in a hotter room with a fireplace on. On the bill for the repairs it only said that he replaced the heatsink.

Perfect temperatures. I suggest looking into cooling pads if you aren't happy with the current situation using legos.
