So yeah, i heard the cpu can get pretty hot in these laptops. so i'm curious about how long you can play crysis or cod4 on this babe continuously, with and without a cooler. and also maybe what kind of cooler is the most efficient. Thx!

I play CoD 4 for hours at a time on my P-6831FX and nothing explodes. The graphics card does get to 70C at some points, but that is only the peak and it doesn't stay there for long.

Ya it will be fine as long as your not laying in bed with the thing rested on your blanket or a pillow :) These laptops actually run very cool compared to some of the other laptops ive owned in the past . Will the machine get warm and blow hot air ? sure it will , but nothing to hurt it. so if your waiting to buy one cause of the heat concerns DONT worry cause there GREEAAT!!! :).

I have done 5-6 hour Crysis, Assassin's Creed and Oblivion stints. No problems.

I had a thermal shutdown after about 6 hours of UT3. I used the power block to boost the back side of the laptop up to allow more air to enter the fans from below. System worked fine after that.

Surfact was a kitchen table with one of those vinyl place mats under the laptop.

Even with the X7900 I have not experienced any temp problems.

This was after some benchmarking runs.

I'm not too worried about the heat, but how loud does it get? Do the the fans sound like jet engines?

Not that it could dissuade me from picking this thing up, I'm pretty much convinced now. Just curious.

Pretty quiet, although with the CPU swap I notice the fans on more often. But that's a small price to pay for 3.0 Ghz.
