Title says it all. Kind of curious about the longevity of Gateway notebooks in general and wanted to see how long owners have held on to theirs before buying a new one for whatever reason.

well most people get on this site b/c their notebooks are new and need info on them or want to buy one/ tell us about it right after it is purchased... chances are if we didnt like it and it was a lemon we wouldnt have a gateway now would we?

Holy cow! I'm just here asking pre-purchase questions like a lot of other people. How did this suddenly turn into an attack on Gateway? Not everyone here is a brand new buyer/user. There are plenty of forum members who have owned there notebook for quite a while and been here for a couple of years or more that just like to answer questions and hang out. I thought this question was pretty generic. I'd ask the same kind of questions if I were buying a car or any other big ticket item, for that matter. Certainly didn't mean to offend anyone....

I haven't had mine for a year quite yet. When I take mine in for a fixin' and get to exchange, I will be first looking at Gateways. I would like a 7525, but I feel the need for a different chassis. I was way hyped about the Core Duo Platinum Edition, then they took it away
I was just at BestBuy and was looking at the P-E with turion.. It was sitting next Qosmio. The screen was just a tad less bright on the Gateway, but it's looks and feels (and price) totally make up for it. The Gateway even feels more sturdy, which was actually a surprise to me.. Speakers were pretty close to as loud Qosmio's (though lacking the huge driver).. The touch pad and KB, I can't even begin to explain how much I like the Gateway's better...
I could go on and on about how much I like it, but I will just get to the moral of my praise: I will surely get another Gateway when the time comes to replace my 7426.

UScooper's response doesn't seem heated at all to me? Don't see what the fuss is about.

I've had mine for about 6 months or so.

I won't actually vote because my Gateway is a desktop, but it is a few days shy of being two years old, and I haven't had a single problem with it--not software nor hardware.

    Good to hear Spaceman.
I have 2 old Gateway desktops that still run today.
    Both, hardware problem free.
1 is near 7 years old (I think, I am unsure)
The other is 5 years old (once again, I am unsure)
However, they both have had some software problems. I blame them on Windows ME.

No biggie. I was probably jumping to conclusions (I have a tendency to do that sometimes) . It was just that this closing coment:

almost sounded as though you were implying that I was questioning Gateway's quality or something. When truth is I'd already asked a million questions (I was running out of good ones) and was home sick (read: bored) and was just curious how long people had owned their machines.

I think part of it may be that I had a college professor in the early 80's who, when you asked what he thought was a stupid question, would sometimes end his answer with "now would we?" in a very snide, condescending tone of voice. Still sets my teeth on edge to think about it to this day. So, yeah. That's it. I'll blame it on Dr. Brimhall.
