Yep still use my p-7805u after nearly two years, best thing i bought, and still runs top end games with a bit of tinkering
-
I guess there are a few of us still left here..........
-
I just got my 7908, and I'm rather happy. It's the first gaming computer I've ever owned.
-
two other bad decisions was locking out the PLL for OC'ng and probably more important not supporting Extreme overclocking in bios. While TS came along it was well after when it needed to appear to save these machines.
Gateway not getting a strong foot hold in the market caused the eventual death of FX gaming machines. They too though would have gone the 16:9 route, loosing the 1920x1200, so I do not miss them too much.
On that note my next gaming machine will be a DTR with 1920x1200 or if unavailable a desktop may be in order. Hopefully I can stay this for a year or two............... -
Wife has 7805, and I have a 7811 converted to 7901.

Here is the page if someone want's to diagnose it for me. Result
I am running a p8400 cpu 4gb ram that it the 7811 came with, a 1900x1200 display, currently set at 1600x1024. -
That is not bad, default is 1280x1024, my score is higher primarily from the cpu
scores mine - yours
total 10,911 - 9528
CPU 3029 - 1985
SM2 4932 - 4471
SM3 4533 - 4628
I am also assuming you are not overclocking the card yet either....... -
Still here.
7805u still purring along.
Screen still looking great. -
Yep, still using my P-7811FX 1920x1200
Upon it's eventually assuming room temperature, I will mourn it's loss and wander aimlessly seeking a replacement. -
After the P79xx series, has Gateway released any other gaming line of laptops yet?
Also anyone know where you can still grab a P79xx series laptop from ? I've checked ebay now and then and haven't seen one for a long while. -

Still here, see sig.

Look up packard bell gx.

That was a P78 FX in PB cloth, 9800m I amd not suer they had a 260m variant..............
-
Well im still here with my p7805u fx. Im going to build a desktop, and go ahead and put the p79 mother board in this laptop. Had i known I was able to interchange motherboards, I would have done that a year or so ago.
-
yeah, someone else had done it already. So I am not treading new waters there. The new waters will be to see if quad core actually will work. Som one on Ebay was selling a P79xx they claimed that was upgraded to a quad so there is a good probability it will work.
I thpught my system would be scroungy inside, it was not too bad. My GPU paste was solid but of course the cheap stuff. I placed ICD on the GPU, 4 memory chips and the component the HS also contacts. So it is definately ready to shead some heat.
Without a doubt it does too. I ran Furmark for hours, it got to 92c and was a flame thrower. It never gets that hot gaming, 79-80c or so, but figured I'd give it a good break in. -
Yep, still have a P-7811FX and still very happy with my Lappy
I have had it now for over 2 years, and use it fairly often, and have never had any issues with that puppy. Great laptop. Of course I updated the operating system to Windows 7 Ultimate
Glad to see several others still running these awesome 7xxxFX systems!!! -

off FleaBay 435.00, there are a few more there. An update though, I suspect there is no way the power profile of the P7805 would have handled the quad cores.
The reason is that I've found with the P79 I've had to significantly lower the voltages to the x9100. Now I run 3.2 @ 1.0750, 3.45 @ 1.1625, 3.7 @ 1.2625 and 4.0 at 1.3750. Now 3.7 barely allows an extended run of orthose without an overheat, as before but 3.2 and 3.45 seem to run a little bit cooler.
It seems this new board supplys much better/cleaner power to the CPU. So a heads up to anyone doing this as well with the x9100, you may need to lower your power profiles. -
P7805u all the way
Put out a new video in honor of Crysis 2 on my channel (which I was barely using anymore lately) -
So far 18 votes/users, more than I expected............

7811FX first day purchase.
It has had its share of problems in the last two years, But I still use it to play video games. -
P-7805u-FX, stock + bluetooth.
Recently added "faux" leather as in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/not...lds/450867-custom-home-made-leather-skin.html. Looks nice, but the stripes on the lid are kinda visible through the contact paper. -
This is off subject, but I have a P-7805u FX that I am selling for my son. He upgraded the cpu to a T-9900, has the WUXGA LCD (1920 x1200) and is running Windows 7 Home. It is in near new condition. Any suggestions on where to list for sale?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions. -

Pretty good 23 P78's and 3 P79's, actually mine is a P78 but a P79 at heart.........
-
I'm still loving my P7811.
-
I put my one vote in for the P79xx quad core ... Unfortunately I may not continue to have this for very much longer if I can't figure out what's wrong with it, or if it's been permanently damaged.
-
The GTX260m has 75% more cuda cores than the 9800m GTS. So I'll be making gaming love to the extra 75% extra frame rates. -
-
Well you can count me in to converting from a p7808u to a p7901h. Finally got it up and running after the media board ribbon and power board and ribbon were replaced.
-
Alot to replace, you have the stock q9000 then?
-
Yes used the stock q9000
-
P-7811 FX still running nicely after 2.5 years...
-
-
Still using my P7805u after two years as well. Just did upgrades on the CPU, SSD, and RAM... its plenty for my work and gaming needs
-
P7811FX Just upgraded the CPU to t9900 and 8gigs Ram (Little faster rendering for work and a little better gaming for play)
