I am trying to see who got deals and who did not I bought the P-171x and paid 1849 before taxes and shipping.
I did some searching and found that some people paid 1599 and 1699 for the same P-171x.
I told my gateway rep and sent him the threads and he said he would see what he could do.
so what did you pay and who was your rep?

I was able to get it down to $1599 also. Some of the reps won't go that low.

I spoke with 5 reps so far but haven't found anyone willing to give me the 1599 deal on the P171X FX. I'll keep trying though. :)

For everyone mentioning 1599, is that including anything else, like a warranty, accessories, etc? And before shipping and tax, right? Not a bad price.

I'm assuming the $1599 price is just for the laptop and the standard 1 year warranty, since that's 20% off of the P171X-FX laptop.

The bad thing about getting quotes is that they want your phone number and address, so I had some reps instead of giving me a quote send me off to one of the reps that I already had contacted. :( And it's usually forwarded to the guy that only quoted me 7% off the P171X-FX laptop only if I got the 3 year warranty. :(

I understand that they get commission off of this and this is their livelihood, but it's hard not asking other reps especially when you hear from other people in this forum what they got the laptop for. I might have to move away from teaching and get a better paying job.

    hi shimon,

If you PM I'll give you the rep contact name I got. I have give 3 different reps my name/tel number -- and still have not pulled the trigger.

I was upfront and polite in what I wanted and got it. And yes it was with just the standard 1 year warranty.

I just ordered mine today and got it for $1599 plus tax with free shipping.

I came really close to pulling the trigger on the Best Buy sale today for the P-6831X FX for $1199. Even though it has the 1440X900 screen and the dvd isnt slot loading.....for the same price you can take that CPU up to a T9300 Penryn.

Lower than the same price... u hav to count the game with it. meaning about 1150 for the gateway. And if u add the 9300 it be about 1500. and u get 99 dollars remaining.

Yeah but I have trouble living with a 1440x900 on a 15.4 laptop -- its got to be horrendous on a 17in screen. Pixelation torture. I would have to get lasik a second time to cut down on the blurriness!!! Damn $1199 is soooooooo tempting. Too bad screens are harder to replace.

I ordered my P-171x fx though a gateway rep "Rico", I paid $1,909.00 total, I saved $585.00 (based of the website). that includes taxs, shipping and a 3 year warrenty, and 3 year accidental damage. Has anyone tried running Everquest 2 in this notebook? If it can handle EQ2 it can handle anything, its a very cpu intense game.

flynnaz, I been playing EQ2 on the Best Buy version w/o a CPU upgrade for the better part of a month without a hickup. Graphics setting are on Very High Quality. I haven't raided since I just bought the game :) But EQ2 dosn't skip a beat even with the 1.66GHZ C2D chip

binro01, Thank you for your answer, thats awesome. Like I said if this laptop can run EQ2 with the 1.6 cpu, then it is a very good deal for the money. The gateway rep that I used is Rico, he email address is [email protected] tell him Sean Flynn sent you, I told him the better the deal more people would contact him. I know he is on vacation until Feb21st I think.

Ordered the 171XFX, got the base for 1599, spent 1750 taxed and shipped. I was gonna get the P6831, but the 1440x900 screen was irking me. I had planned to upgrade it but trying to find a 1680x1050 screen that was compatable was iffy, and the dell 17" 1920x1200 would've cost around 300. So by the time I spent 550 on the T8300 and LCD this was already cheaper and no messin around.

Rico hooked me up too, great guy!

no that's just the standard 1 year. USAA has very inexpensive laptop insurance so i'll just use that. It's cheaper than spending the 250 for the 3 year+ accident, Rico couldn't make that lower, it's 149 for 3 year and 99 for accident.

Just the standard laptop/computer insurance (my desktop is covered as well) I think it costs 24 every 6 months for me. I can't remember the exact but it's cheap. Just give em a call, you know their customer care...best I've ever seen anywhere.
I just checked my old quote from him and he sure did the same for me...only 149 and 0 for accident. Hmmm now I'm second guessing myself! If I resell then it might be worth it.

I have renters insurance through USAA and it's great. They cover all your house hold goods, electronics, furniture, clothing, etc. And they cover it even if you take it overseas for all you military types like myself. So don't worry about sand USAA has you covered. They dont ask for receipts for it either. And they pay you the retail price for your stuff, not a depreciated price. LOL man that was some free advertising haha. But in all seriousness USAA takes care of ya.
