    Hello, all.

Well, I got my 7805 last week. I immediately left for a long road trip, and was very glad to have it. The only problem so far is, while in the car using the laptop, the bottom of my cup sprung a leak, and I got a very small bit of soda on the mouse area. I had electronic wipes, and managed to clean up most of the droplets, but one got in the seam of the right mouse button. Now that button still works, but is sometimes sticky.

I would like to safely remove the button, clean out the mechanism and put it back on. Is there a good way to do this?

    Thank you!

You're looking at a complete dis-assembly. There are guides on this forum showing how this is done.

    Good Luck!

Thanks, Tybalt! Would you happen to have a link handy? I'll continue to pursue the search function.

Any tips for getting the main case screws out? I got one, and it looks like they are Loctite'd. The ones near the front (mouse area) bottom won't budge with my precision screwdriver, and I don't want to strip them.

    Thanks!

Most of the screws do have some kind of loctite on them, but they come out fairly easy. Don't be afraid to use a little force, just use constant slow pressure and they should come out without any problem. You need to start with the Media bar first though (remove 2 screws in battery bay), then the lcd needs to come off then the top bezel and you will see the touchpad assembly attached under it.

Thanks, azrickster. I ended up using the precision screwdrivers with a gentle aid from a wrench the first quarter turn. Worked great.

I managed to get it all apart (and back together :) ) late last night using the service PDF floating around here, but I stopped when I got to the touchpad assembly. I removed the 6 screws (2 silver, 4 black) that hold the touchpad circuitboard onto the bottom of the palm rest, but it feels like it is stuck onto the palm rest, either with some kind of adhesive or by interlocking parts.

Anybody know if there is a safe way to disassemble this piece? I am willing to take it apart another time or two, but I want to limit it so things stay together! :)

    Thanks!

Do this at your own risk, but.............

Well if you have a deep and wide enough pot you can pull the power and battery. fill the pot with 99% alchohol and dip the computers front edge, minus the dispaly, in and out. be sure to dip and drain the alchohol a few times and work the mouse button. be sure to let the system fully dry out before using it again.................

Other option is use a spray electronic cleaning solution, or a solution for cleaning electronics instaed of the 99% alchohol.. keep everything away from the display............

Sorry Flytrap, wouldn't know how to take out the touchpad since I haven't had to. TANWare's method sounds a bit risky (hence the "at your own risk") but the risk might be eased if you dip/spray the front of the removed top bezel rather than the whole laptop.

Thanks so much for all of the replies.

Right after my previous post, I tried a similar task to what you both later recommended. I simply raised the mouse button as far as I could from the top and dropped two droplets of alcohol into the seams. I clicked the mouse button until it felt normal again and blew out the excess alcohol with canned air. I let it sit all afternoon to dry without battery or power. When I came home, it still worked like a champ!

A friend at work had suggested this earlier in the day. He figured that was how the soda got in there, so alcohol probably could, too, and he was right! :)

Thank you so much for all of your suggestions. I really appreciate the help, and I learned a lot (more than I wanted) about the inside of my laptop! :D

Reason for the other option, spray electronics cleaner. I can say the dip method for me works great. My dog hit my arm and my TV remote feel into a deep cup of a yogurt drink, it got totally soaked. took the batteries out and several full rinses in a well of the 99% alchohol cleaned it right up. I've done this before with pc cards etc too and have yet to have an issue. Again though, do this at your own risk...........
