Does anybody know how to get Stereo Mix to appear on our beloved 7811FX ?
Is there maybe a hacked driver you know about, or any other trick ?
I tried to Show Disabled Devices, but it still isn't there ... Virtual Audio Cables doesn't seem to work, I get an error during the install, so here I am out of options, please help me out on this one if you have any suggestions !!

    Thanks a Lot !

What exactly are you referring to by stereo mix?

It's equivalent to the What U hear on creative cards.
(To be able to record what you are listening to)

I ran into the same problem trying to install Cool Edit Pro.

The problem AFAIK isn't with the laptop, it's Vista. Windows XP has an audio mixer control panel which software like CEP use to control the audio input and output. Since Vista uses a newer, modified audio control, older software expecting to find the mixing feature won't work.

Anybody else who knows anything more might want to jump in here and correct me.

The solution I have found was to just dual boot with XP. The one problem you'll have there, though, is that you may not get XP audio drivers for the 7811. Montevina laptops are notorious for lack of XP support, especially audio under XP.

Stereo Mix = "What You Hear" (Creative)
I read on this Forum somewhere that someone modified his Vista driver to enable the Stereo Mix in his software mixer, would anybody know about how to do this for this particular Conexant HD 221 sound card?

So, this question never got answered?

I'm using VAC (Virtual Audio Cable) which is kind of hokey on vistaX64 due to signing drivers or somesuch... and if the app you wish to "monitor" doesn't have options for audio device selection - you have to override speakers as the default output device, then the "repeater" app may not work (unsure though)..
anyway - would really really like to get stereo mix working - I strongly believe that it's built-in to the hardware and it's just the vista implementation/drivers that hide it (pretty sure I read this somewhere)... it's the conexant device iirc.

Anyway - any word from anyone who actually has found either a )64-bit XP driver that works for this device OR ) a hack to get vista/drivers to give back the stereo-mix/what-u-hear device? None of this "just click and select show_disabled_devices, etc.." that's not the issue. The stereo mix ports are just non-existent as far as Vista is concerned, neither disabled or disconnected or any such... they're just not there.

Someone has to have fixed this by now, right? aaargh...

I think I'm going insane. Cause I could swear that I had Stereo mix when I first installed Windows 7. I don't remember if it was available on Vista. And now after a HDD crash, i had to install Win 7 all over again and this time Stereo Mix isn't avail. ? i have a P7811FX this is totally frustrating me. Unless I'm nuts and confusing my other win 7 computers and i never had stereo mix.
I don't want to resort to purchasing TOTAL RECORDER. cause i tested it and it works as Stereo mix does.
Please tell me i'm not nuts

using VAC and it works juuuuuuuuuuuuust fine!

just check the "Listen to this device" in the properties and set it as default if you want. I haven't coz I need SRS to be my default output but that's fine.

I can use it without the repeater app :)
