Hi guys,
I purhcased an ASUS G50v-x1 from bestbuyu 10 days ago and now that I saw the new gateway coming, I would like to go with the gatewat instead of the asus. I would like to get an exchange without paying the 15% restocking fee. Do you guys have any tricks to do this? By the way, there are 3 bestbuy stores I can try my luck.
Thanks for your help.

just tell them you want to exchange it for another notebook. stores become lenient when they know they arent losing the money.

Drop it in the toilet then return it broken for a full refund.

I agree with Lakjin, I think they tend to do more of a 15% restocking fee when it's a refund. An exchange, especially if it's within 15 or 30 days or whatever their policy is... shouldn't be a huge problem. Take it in to one and see what happens -
They will almost surely waive the RST fee. I have done this many times and never been stuck with the fee. Just make sure you re-pack everything in the box as neatly as possible.

Bigger stores usually waive the restocking fee on exchanges to more expensive laptops.
That's not a guarantee, though - for ex; at my store, we almost always do that, but in one of the smaller stores in my district, they tend not to. -
Ok guys. Thanks for your advice. I will try it and update you if it works out.

at circuitcity, where i work, as long as it's within 14 days from purchase and your exchanging the restocking fee is normally waived

I hope your lucky and this works for you cause a few days ago i tried the same thing, i was actually returning a recently purchased Sony Vaio FW to get the Asus G50 back when it was on sale, it was still a little more than the sony laptop, well when i bought the sony the sales rep said they stopped having restocking fees for laptops even opened ones if it was within 14 days, well he lied to me cause when i tried returning it no more than 5 days after purchase i was given a lot of attitude and told the policy is anything opened has a fee, even after i informed the store manager that a worker of hers told me i wouldnt she proceeded to, politely, accuse me of lying by saying he has worked long enough to know better and tell me she couldnt do anything, even after i said i planned to exchange it for a more expensive laptop. The most i got was her name and the associates name and a number for corporate which i will be *****ing at soon. I had to do the return and pay the fee cause the sale was about to end on the asus so now i am hoping to God the ppl at corporate are a little more compassionate than their grunt store workers who have no clue what customer service means. Seriously i hope u get away with a clean exchange i would never want someone else to have to go through what i went through with them. Please post your results and if anyone has any ideas of how to get a refund, not an exchange, for an opened laptop it would be appreciated, or even ways to make the laptop appear to not have been opened cause i am now trying to return this one and i have all the boxes but any special tricks would help lol. The only other way to get around the fee is for them to believe the box was never opened, but idk what kind of checks they do on the box to validate it or if its as simple as a quick looking to make sure it looks unopened.

I guess we are lucky around here I have never had an issue with exchange at any of our BB. I exchanged a Toshiba for my Gateway, it was within the 14 days but the manager had already told me he would extend the 14 day exchange period if the 7811's were not in stock before the exchange period ended.

I think reps generally act nicer if you are a customer unhappy about a product than if you tell them honestly that you just want your money back or you want to have an exchange.

That's what I was told when I got my 6860. If I returned it, there would be a 15% restock fee no matter what. If I exchanged it for a comparable laptop, then they would most likely waive the restock fee.
