Hey there guys newbie here. My question is what it states in the title. Ive ''upgraded'' my gateway p-7805u to xp and Ive read somewhere that the sound doesnt work on the tv when HDMi is hooked up to p-7805u but i read that like a long time ago. Has there been any solutions to that?i wanted to know because im interested in buying an HDMI cable soon.

And also what HDMi cable would you guys recommend me from your experiance that performs well without being too pricey?

i dont have a solution for your sound/xp problem...but for hdmi cable, any should be fine... both a $5 or a $90 cable are the same.

Newegg.com has good HDMI cables for cheap.

Regarding XP, did you give Vista 64 a chance? I used it for the first time when I bought my P-7805u recently and I really like it. The Media Center is really nice. I think Vista gets a bad rap for being slow on under powered machines but it runs very well on this laptop. I'm loving it so far.

    My solution to you?

Install Windows 7. The laptop has more than enough power to run Vista so it can definitely benefit running Windows 7.

Sorry dont really use XP anymore. I just got my HDMI to work properly in Ubuntu a couple weeks ago. I had to go through a bunch of drivers from intel and ati than mess with all the settings. I was pulling my hair out for months working on this. I would download one and have video and no sound and than download another and have no video and have sound. All that to say it maybe all about playing with drivers and settings. You could play around and if you find something write up a how to.

Besides not being able to send audio through the HDMI cable, have you had any other issues running XP on this machine? HAve you tried the firewire and E-SATA connectors?

I just realized taht one of my programs will also require XP and so I'm considering dual-booting as well. I've never installed 2 OS on a computer, can you send me some good information/tutorial links for installing XP-32 on the P-7805u with Vista 64? Also for necessary drivers?
