Hello,
I was wondering what I need to know when looking for a new disk drive to know that it will work in my 7811, I know it uses sata, but what else do I need to know? More specifically, will this drive work?

thanks for the help.

It should work, as long as it fits the bay it should work because other than the extra features they offer they usually are standardized to work for more than just a few specific laptop bays

yeah I'm doing the research now and it does appear as though all the slim drives on newegg will work, now I need to decide if I'm going to be irresponsible and spend that kind of money or just get a replacement, lol

I bought this off newegg and it works just fine in my Gateway 7811-FX

it's very fast and the read/write times are really good
it's MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH faster than the regular hard drive that comes with the laptop
i'm considering buying another one and replacing hte one that comes with the laptop
i already have windows 7 installed on my laptop, i bought mine last year in october -

yeah I guess I wasn't too specific, I'm looking for a dvd or blu ray drive as mine no longer works! But as you can see in my sig I have a WD scorpio as well and love it too.

oh sorry, I guess I misread your initial post, I thought you were asking about a hard drive
i'm not too sure about replacing the optical drive, that's an excellent question, let me know what you find out. -

does anyone have a slot load on their gateway, and if so how does it fit compared to a tray? ( as far as the faceplate is concerned?)
How to know if a drive will work in my 7811?
