The Gateway P79, P78 and P68 systems will not OC with setfsb unless a hard mod is done. There is another thread about OC'ng the P78 here you should look up.

so der is no way to overclock my p-79.... by the way i was able to get 2.26GHz out of my system just by enabling IDA on all of my cores.....
oh and 1 more thing i flashed this bios
    http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thre...oenix-Bios-for-Gateway-P-79-Series-of-Laptops
is this bios version ok or should i flash some other bios.....this bios lets me access some of the advance features like speedstep and all but doesnt giv access to the fan nd voltage settings ....

For that you may need the xtreme CPU. I have the q9200 in mine so it is unlocked. As far as is the modded bios version safe, well the only bios since release is the one available at the gateway support site. If this was the one used it should be fine. As far as what the programmer did for the mod I can't determine.

Our GPU is soldered in. If you are resource full enough a new CPU chip might be able to be soldered and hacked in...........

I would recommend a C2D, such as the x9100. If you overclock the CPU you will probably find you get not too much above 3.1 GHz. Not too sure if the CPU is responsible for the frame drops if you find during these times the CPU load is maxing out then the better CPU may help out.

is there any way to know if the CPU or GPU is the bottleneck cause according to the minimum requirements they both r fine .. but csgo is a CPU intensive game so thats y i thought upgrading the cpu would help..... also my lappie heats upto 100C when playn that game otherwise its arnd 50-60C

if the CPU is heating to 100c the TSZ may be throttling the CPU, that is unless you are talking 100c on the GPU in which case it may then limit the game..........

if CPU is at 100c then redo the TIM and NB pad. While at it be sure the CPU fan is working. If this doesn't help it could be the actual heat sink is bad too..................

Hey omnifarious, ya noob! Listen, you need to download Throttle stop, and UNDERVOLT your CPU. I havent undervolted q9000 yet but i think i heard tan mention that it undervolts all the way on throttle stop while functioning 100% Oh and i use thermal pad on NB chip because the nb gets alot hotter than cpu, this keeps alot of its heat to itself instead of getting the heatsink extra hot so that it heats up the cpu. NB chip also functions at a higher temp than cpu, its on the level of the vid card where 100c is the cuttoff , but cpu on the other hand is like 70-80c is the cuttoff.

Even on stock vcore the throttling of the CPU should prevent restart. It needs new TIM as well as TS software and undervolt.......................

Actually for a CQD it would be DDA not IDA. I think with these boards, just as with IDA on the P78xx, it requires a hard mod and then software too. Finding a cheap Q9100 or Q9200 may be a better idea................

Actually tanware, i just figured it out, no hard mod required. On throttlestop you can unclick disable turbo which in turn enables it, and im now running 2.2 ghz from 2.0ghz, a good lil bump up for the cheap quad core cpu that ur not supposed to be able to over clock.

Ah, then it is different from the P78xx. Since I only have the Extreme CPU's I never got to test this as IDA/DDA is disabled on these. You supposedly just overclock the heck out of them............. :)

ya @laptop central ive been using throttle stop only for overclocking my cpu to 2261MHZ just untick every option nd click on set multiplier mine goes till 8.5 but u need to disable intel's speedstep from ur BIOS............. and the undervolting doesnt help to bring down the temp mine is 1.05 still the same...... i think tanware is right its most proabably the thermal paste so will change that .
