in terms of fit and cooling?
-
I went for the Cooler Master NotePal Infinite on the end because the air intake vent is on the rear end of the cooler which means you can use it on your lap or in bed and it will still provide cool air to the bottom of the laptop. Perfect fit too.

i made a mistake buying the nc 1000 for my p-6381.
mistake because it is too small for a 17" laptop, however cooling wise no complaints, and noise levels are more than acceptable. -
yeah, gonna have to say....not impressed by this. bought it and ran it through the ringer. meaning... i made sure that the gpu or cpu didn't down clock and let it run in 5 minute test over a 4 hour period of time. gpu didn't even budge going down. stayed up in the high 60's and the cpu wasn't to far behind in the low 60's. although it kept some small parts of the plastic cool....

I just got the cooler last week. It's completely silent. So far I have no complaints, as for the cooling itself, it seems to get pretty cold (the cooler itself) and my computer hasn't been overheating. I play Counter Strike: Source and World of Warcraft on high for numerous hours.
-
my computer never over heats, don't get me wrong, and the metal does get cool... but as far as cooling the laptop down...not working like how i thought it should work. people tend to get fooled that it's working when in reality it's the version of nvidia inf file that got installed which is controlling the gpu temps and clocks. not to mention if you installed a t9300 which clocks down to using one core (throttled) temps get as low as 29c not using a notebook cooler and using one..they went up to 31c..*LOL* i couldn't figure that one out....(speculation of course)
-
My GPU idle temps seem to be somewhat higher than most of the posts I've seen here.
Was looking at the NC2000 as a possible solution, guess I might have to look elsewhere. -
it's going to take me a few days, but i have been going through this inf file stuff and it seems to control allot of how the temps for the gpu act. this and the fan. (wish i knew how to turn that fan on high when i wanted too! *LOL*) right now i ran the temp up to 61c and just let the laptop sit for about 1 minute. temp is at 49c and still dropping without a cooler. the way it's built covers up your gpu and cpu vents for a 6831/6860 but has all them little holes for your hard drive though.*LOL* you have to readjust it more so the vents get the cool air and that still isn't working. had this thing for 6 days trying to make sure i was not seeing things wrong....but..... it's going back to the store today.

wow, this is dissapointing. this cooler has gotten rave reviews fpr the most part.
iamtheanimal: how well does the notepal cool yours? -
one of the many reasons why i went with it irata! reviews and what people had to say about it...but under careful scrutiny ....i found that it was the notebook it self which was doing the cooling and not the nc2000... normally i would have taken it back the next day...but i couldn't believe it! so kept it a few more days to test. i got the black one and it blends in nicely with my notebook. looks super cool, but just not doing the job....
edit: i'm still going to give it on more day. maybe im not doing it right. maybe i do need to be running it as a swamp cooler with a little bit of water. *LOL*
last day, if she cant drop it like the notebook did by it's self...she out the door. might have to check out that one that they said will send your laptop into outer space...*LOL* -
keep us posted
EDIT: If i did my math correctly, looks like the notepal's width runs short. It appears to be geared for a 15.4"
Dimension (W / H / D) 380x300x10~50 mm
380mm = 15.4 inches. -
The width at the back is pretty much spot on but it's tapered towards the front and so yeah it is slightly smaller. I use it all the time and the size is perfect for this laptop - it's just like an extension of the base.
-
dont get me wrong. it is a perfect for a 17 inch laptop.
it's just that the holes could have been higher up, bu then that still isn't cooling it down. looking at it now. 69c with fans a blowing and me doing nothing but watching crysis idle. -
-
yep, thought it was so i went and sat at the store and tried a different one. and that was the same story.....
How well does the Zalman NC2000 work with the 6860fx?
