Do I just pop-in the clean install disk and go from there? Am I going to have to download all the drivers for everything? Is it a big pain in the ass?

Check out the Gateway Recovery Center on your laptop. It should answer all of your questions. I would highly advise you use the option to create an iso of all drivers and apps.

Definately back up the gateway drivers. I didn't and now I'm having a lot of trouble getting my system back in order. So far I have an unknown device yet I have installed all the gateway drivers off the website and no luck.

Should I do x32 because of some incompatibilities with x64?

I am running 64bit vista on all my computers now, with no problems.
