I have a lot of problems regarding my 3-day old P-6860 FX.
-- first, I have a whopping 70+ processes. I don't know how to reduce it to around 30, so I hope you guys could suggest a solution.
my stock procie goes to 70%-100% load sometimes, even if I don't run any intensive program.

-- next, my games are stuck at 1024x768, and it looks ugly on a widescreen LCD such as the one in the P-6860. I don't know what I'm missing (driver issues, etc.), I just want to maximize game settings and play at native resolution.
I am using 174.93. my monitor (Generic PnP Monitor) has a 6.0.6001.18000 dated at 6/21/2006.

-- currrently looking for the "Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus" driver. also, will LabelFlash work with any other burning software that supports the LightScribe technology? I did a clean install without backing-up the pre-installed software, so now I'm using Nero 7 Ultimate. any suggestions?
I hope I can resolve all these issues. thanks people.

that is a vista tweak guide, should help with the processes, as for the res problem, just un install the driver and re install and see what happens -
You might want to try running a spyware program like threatfire or spybot. Try a diffrent video driver, or even the stock one. LabelFlash is diffrent from LightScribe, try to google Labelflash for software, you need to buy the dvd's that support it too, not that great. Goto Gateway.com/support look under the P-6831 fx drivers for the ones you need, I think the two you need are 32/64bit.

updated with pics.
@narsnail
what took you so long?! I've been waiting for you since day 1 regarding my problems.
you're the one who made me want this laptop, lol. (8800M GTS Benchmarks) -
I trimmed the services but when I rebooted, processes were still 70+, with 50% of the services disabled.
what the?!
@flynnaz
I will try those softwares. tried a lot of graphics drivers... nothing seemed to solve the game-resolution problem. -
Make the gateway driver disk and reinstall vista so you get a clean install.
-
The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
I doubt if you have a virus with so many svchost and rundll.
-
I've done a clean install of Vista 4 times now.
threatfire does not support 64-bit as of the moment. -
How come you have 2 anti virus running the same time? 2 anti virus will slow down your computer !!! Did you try it with just one anti virus?
-
-
and has anyone confirmed that his two games even run well under 64 bit?
-
I just installed SimCity 4 Deluxe, and it gave me a max resolution of 1600x1200. I guess the game is the one having some issues.
I will try to just use one anti-virus and get back with results.
thanks. -
I agree with mohjarr, only use 1 antivirus. That will help within itself. Also, you could do another clean install and go one by one and see what is causing the process issue. Install one thing at a time after you get the drivers all installed, then monitor after each install. Because it shouldn't do it with a clean os and just drivers.
On the gaming side, have you tried using the drivers from gateways website? I would try those and see if those fix the problem, if so, then its a driver problem. But, I know there are games that don't support the res of widescreens. Check with the game vendor and see what they support also.
Hope that helps.
Good luck -
I have a few programs installed.
here is a list:
uTorrent
Adobe Flash player
avast!
AVG
webcam software
Everest
google toolbar
Intel wireless software
NFS Carbon
Nero 7 Ultra
ObjectDock
Rivatuner
SimCity 4
Spybot
Synaptics
Vista Batt Saver
WinRAR
that's just it. -
70+ Processes does seem high...but you are running more programs than I. Not sure why yours is so high. The only apps I run at startup are Everest and Multiplicity.
Of all the games I have tried all have run at the max resolution for the 6860.
FYI I have done all the tweaks and optimization to both my Vista and Windows XP boots that I can do.
Upon bootup Vista shows about 45 processes running...22% memory utilization and 10-20% cpu utilization.
By comparison upon bootup Windows XP boot shows about 35 processes, 15ish% memory utilization and 0-4% cpu utilization.
-
what program is that...the one on the right?? -
Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com.
I have always used that over the XP task manager.
Put it on the Vista boot out of habit...although the Vista TM is much better than XP.
On the right is the OSD panel from Everest. -
forgot all about OSD.

What drivers are you guys using for xp for the graphics and sound? I got an older driver to work for 8800 but I still have a score of under 7000 in 3dmarks 06. I just really need the sound driver I guess if anybody has a link to that it would be great. I hope this isn't too off topic. Thanks
I badly need help, P-6860 FX
