I have already read the beep code manual and the beep(s) I'm hearing should mean RAM I have just tried brand new ram and reset them properly and I still get the same problem I've been having.

When ever I turn the laptop on it goes to the start up screen and when the bar is about 80% blue it does a continues beep. and after a bit the screen goes black and it just keeps beeping until I do a force shut off. If I push f8 shortly before or after the beeping starts the computer will load up and I will get 2 fast beeps one short beep. again that code seems to be pointed at the RAM which I just changed. what is wrong with this laptop and why is it doing this annoying beeping and how do I get rid of it?

So which model do you have exactly of gateway? And what ram make and model are you using? You gave info but no specs on the laptop model number or what rams your using to know for sure if the problem isn't ram incompatibility or bad ram? Have you tried to boot without no ram?

StormJumper from info I could find on the lappy that Lady_mav posted about it uses pc-2700 ram for a max of 2gb, 2 slots. Definitely older ram.

Have to ask now was it working before you switched the RAM and this problem started after you changed RAM? So during all this boot and reboot do you ever get to the Desktop? It just starting to sound like your computer is way to old since it was XP machine and it's possible that it is nearing it's end of lifespan usage? So what kinda RAM are you using again? Andy A has replied back but seeing as there isn't a reply back from what hardware you using that is all guess as to what is going on in your system. But in all respect it might be time to decide to get a newer or new used laptop that has either Vista or Windows7 that support the DDR2 or DDR3 in some so you can spend less on those Ram.
