    I have a Gateway 7405GX and when i turn on my computer that screen stays black but i can see the lights on the keyboard....

    It happened like dis, my brother wanted to use the computer so when he press the power on button, it turned on and immediately after he pressed it again and it made a tlack sound and i couldn't see the screen anymore, so what you guys think the problem is, you guys think the screen is fried or do you guys think it a wire or something that fried with in...???

    Can you hear it booting into Windows?

    no, i dont hear it booting to windows, maybe the sound was muted or something before it broke, or i dont know but no, i dont hear it booting to windows

    Turn on the computer, press and hold down any key except f2 f8 or f10. Do can you hear the beeps? If you hear the beeps probably computer was muted before the screen issue. If you can't here the beeps, bring your nose to the computer and try smelling for a burned smell.

    If you hear beeps, I'll assume your computer is turning on. Connect the computer to an external monitor, turn on the computer. Give the computer enough time you think it needs to boot to windows. Then using the "Fn" key plus toggle display key, for example on my P-6831FX its the F4 key to toggle between displays.
