Alright, so I was one of the unlucky ones who received a 1440 x 900 screen with my P-7805u. Now I want to upgrade to a WUXGA+ LCD screen. When I am doing my searches, I get varied results, I am trying to figure out how else (other than typing P-7805 LCD screen) can I get a list of COMPATIBLE 17" screens. I see a lot of nice LCD screens on sale either on ebay, amazon, or elsewhere. I just wish I knew a little more before I bought one.

I know things like the LG vs AOU debate. I am going to go for an LG screen. So I need to know which LG screens I can buy for my P-7805u. Is there an easy way to distinguish through them?

i actually bought it when they were 1920x1200 resolution screen but i returned it because i wanted a 1440x900 res screen. i dont have much use for that much screen space but the main reason was for higher performance at native resolutions.

Even now the 9800m does decent at that res. I you are gaming the increase in res is not a good idea for gaming at native resolution. If you overclock the 9800m the 1920x1200 is more doable but you still will have issues with some games at native resolution............

Ok, so I do do a lot of gaming. Now the thing is, are the colors better/sharper images at all while playing? Or does it not affect it at all? When you refer to native res, you mean 1440x900 right?

Now what if I upgrade to a blu-ray disk player eventually, then I would indeed want the upgrade right?

BR will still play the 1440x900 just display at the lowered res, just like playing a BR on a 720P TV. Taking a 1920x1200 and playing at 1440x900 actually will make the collors appear a bit washed compared to the native 1440x900 screen. if you can play 1920x1200 native though the screen is amazing........

And are we allowed to play 1920x1200 native if I switch out the LCD screen? If so, how would I go about doing that?

Ok, so that seems easy enough. Once I switched out the LCDs, Windows will be able to automatically pick up the new resolutions and I'll be able to pick 1920x1200 as native correct?

yes, there may be a reboot or two involved but windows PnP should pick it up for you.

Hm...ok so now the question again. How do I go about picking the correct models for the LG 1920x1200?

to get specifically the LG may be an issue. I am not sure there, There are plenty of parts number on the link I originally posted, LG specific I am not sure of..................

about the best I could find for a match. at least now you have the part number.

Yeah, I saw that one, I was hoping it would be a good part number. Wish there was an official listing somewhere :(

If I got one of these displays, will I need an inverter? Or does the 1440x900 come with one that I can use or what?

for tthose that have made the change an inverter was not needed. it was all just plug and play, of course with alot of screws loose first............. :)

Alright so all that stuff I read about frying the circuit boards because of an increase of temps/cpu usage that's all bull? Just need some good thermal paste to keep the temps down?

The screen resolution will not cause extra CPU usage. When playing a game it might make the GPU work a bit harder but not outside of its limit, the video card lists 1920x1200 as a supported mode. In the end CPU and GPU are non issues...............

That is the one nice thing about the 260m, the 9800m GTS performance level of 1440x900 or better at the native 1920x1200.................. :)

Edit; Dirt2 1440x900 old then 1920x1200 new pics both x9100 4xAA, also added 9800m at 1920x1200 so you can judge performance degradation.

On snap....so with the 1920x1200 screen and my 9800m GTS, it's actually a better performing card at res 1440x900 than the 260m?

the first pic is the 9800m at 1440x900 35.8 min, 2nd pic the 260m at 1920x1200 38.1 min. so the 260m performs the same but at the higher res. I include the third pic so you could see the performace degradation ot the 9800m at 1920x1200..............

Below is the 260m at 1440x900..........

Oh wow on the last post. LOL. Ok, so it kind sucks at 1920x1200 compared to 1440x900. It's still not bad though. Just ordered my 1920x1200.

30 FPS to me is minimum for play, the 9800m can do this in a few games but for newer ones you kind of hve to lower res or features. The 260m is getting that way now for newer games.............

Ah gotcha. Well I am usually behind a year on games anyways, unless it's an MMORPG and they usually will NEVER require high end stuff. I played AION on max everything and was running over 30FPS easily on this laptop before the upgrades.

My projector is 720p native rez for stereo 3d so I play crysis 2 at that resolution and get 45-60 fps which is fantastic for Multiplayer.

Hmm, was just wondering if LED screen update would be possible? I suppose it would be difficult to find a screen of suitable size, but aside of that?

The inverter board isn't conditioned to handle an LED display.
