I just got my Gateway 7801u FX about 45 minutes ago. My father's friend works at gateway so I got it for $450 right from the warehouse. My dad split the cost with me, so I got it for $225. Anyway, beyond the bragging...

I booted it up and uninstalled the bloatware. Only have two issues SO FAR:

    1. Right click is slightly sticky... I don't know how to explain it but it doesn't feel like its sitting right. It clicks fine towards the right side of the right click button, but towards the left side of the right click button it feels like it clicks twice when I push it down.

    2. Backlight bleed! Along the bottom and in the center of the screen. Only noticable when black. Slightly if barely noticable from the front, but it stands out like a sore thumb from the side.

I can get a new one if anything is wrong... worth returning and waiting another week? Any fixes?

congratulations on an unheard of deal!!

I would not worry about the right click issue. Adjust the sensitivity in the synoptics options. I used the corners of the touchpad as R n L clicks, and F n B at the top L n R of the touchpad.

When at a desk I use an external mouse, Logitach G5.

Don't worry about the right click. Believe it or not as you use the right click more, and as the laptop heats up and cools down (especially that area because of the HDDs) it will start to get "broken in" and I don't mean that literally thank god, I mean it will start to feel more comfortable when you use it. Anyway, given that it's a gaming notebook, you might want to invest in a gaming mouse, since you'll have a hard time playing games with a touchpad.

Everyone has a little backlight bleed. If you exchanged it 10 times, you would still have that backlight bleed in each one, just some have more and some have less. If you touch the panel along the lower part of the screen, you'll notice its not tight to the screen, it kind of hangs off a bit. Unfortunately, it's a small problem in the build quality. The backlight bleed is usually caused by some air in the screen. Sometimes it can be pressed out, even if only temporarily, by applying slight pressure with a dry, clean, 100% cotton cloth or shirt. Give it a week, and you won't even care that it's there, trust me. It does not affect contrast, it doesnt affect movies even when they're dark, it doesn't affect anything when the screen is in use.

I read someone's post somewhere (can't remember) that said that the plastic on one of the buttons on the touchpad had a "burr" on it, and he removed it with a sharp knife (X-acto) and it resolved his issue.

Maybe that is the problem, grunyon?
