I'm not sure if you guys did or did not figure out the raid option for our wonderful laptop 7811FX
just a minute ago, I was playing around the bios and found the raid option where the hard drive mode is (something like AHC or sata ide,, not sure) but I have a third option for raid,
I went ahead and disabled the quite boot.
and guess what? I have an option to go on to RAID, the thing is strip size is maximum of 128. doesnt go up to 256.. is this bad?
-
-
Oh the thing is... I dont know how to go back to non raid mode...
Cant seem to access the default bios anymore...uh-oh -
hmm i never even bothered to look into my bios for raid cause i didnt have matched drives and TBH my 320 7200 rpm drive is sick fast i was actually very impressed and happy i bought one.
-
The THing is.. I dont know how to get back to regulae drive array... This was an accident caused by curiosity...

So pop 2 POS 80gig hard drives in there to see if it actually works, and if so you can go get a second 200gb drive (or upgrade them both to 320+gig drives) and enjoy your RAID.
But i thought that even being able to set it up it actually didnt work? Maybe it does though, that would be nice for the 7811 owners -
Well I had two more identical hard drive (same as stock) lieing around.. so right now... not knowing how to get back to original 200gb / 200gb seperate configuration.. im stuck with raid right now... which I dont mind so much..(if the performance is good) but the thing that I cant revert bothers me.
-
the drives dont need to be the same size or speed for that matter to run a raid. it is just mainly preferred is all. the raid will run as fast as it's slowest counter part.
-
Yep i knew about the raid thing and not having paired drives would work but the effort for such if any real gains just made me not want to bother was all.
-
Well... how do i undo it? do i have to reflash the stock bios?
-
as for getting bact to normal.
1: your going to have to hit ctrl+i to invoke the raid controller and delete the raid you created
2: then boot to bios and click disable raid sata contoller
3: change achi back to compatability mode
4 reboot computer. and all should be back to the way it was. -
For crap sake! It was there all along? What kind of dunder headed, addlepated, bunch of wannabes do we have around here.

yeah, i was wondering about all that myself....and thought the bios's were the same, but since i dont have a 7811, i was not about to say...it's right there...lol
-
What. The. F-Bombadillos!?
Am I the only one freaking out while reading this thread? Someone says they have Raid on the 7811 and THEY WANT TO GET RID OF IT? And no one is asking questions as to how he/she got it, they're just helping him/her get rid of it?! Wow.
So anyway, when I look in bios, I see ACHI, IDE, and NOTHING else. I have two matching Seagate momentus 200GB 7200 drives, one that came with the laptop, one that I bought.
Furthermore, theres an entire 10+ page thread, among others, in which people tried numerous times to get the Raid option to show up where ACHI and IDE are, and have failed.
I'm going to have to call B.S. on this, sorry. If someone else can confirm that they have the Raid option on the 7811, please let me know. To the OP, please post in detail what hard drives you have, if you've modified anything in the bios to get Raid to show up as an option, etc. Please also tell us when you bought your 7811 and what the bios version is. -
-
OK mistagill, you are going to have to defend your nomination by taking pics of the bios screen. I see no other option.
-
yes, but did he flash his bios to the 94.28 bios?
-
LOL. I'm definitely sticking around for this one. *grabs popcorn*
-
or show the raid option enabled under windows...lol
-
ugh ok... lol hold on
-
ok.. here it is.. Bios picture would be complicated here is my window

well...thats answers that
LOL! -

good thing we didn't reset it back yet... -
yes. The third option on Blue-Bios page under hard drive, iguess. was the raid option. I happen to disable quite boot at the same time. it goes over to press control i- after the first boot screen. went in there had the option for Raid0 and others like mirroring. chose raid o striping 128 <- this was the largest value I could choose....
than installed windows and such and now you are looking at my screen. hohoho -
You also now hold the world's record for "lowest burst rate" on a RAID-0 array.
BooHoo I don't have another drive. -
yeah. these hard drives kinda suck lol
-
well, do almost the exact same thing to uninstall it if you like. just choose to delete the raid volume. that might be the only way for the option to show back up in the bios. keeps people from accidentally messing things up. (speculation of course)
if you haven't found the right answer...ill probably do a raid setup later tonight. and will fill in the blanks. -
-
Open the Intel Matrix Storage Console, once open rt click on your raid array and select enable volume write back cache. That'll take care of the burst problem.
On another note, If it turns out the RAID option has been there the whole time, I'm gonna laff my anus off. -
Dang, another reason to spend money. I smell 2x500 drives comin' up.
For sale: 1 200GB 7200RPM notebook drive, hardly used.
I could wait but once quiet boot is disabled, does the raid option show in bios on reboot? (I'm a tad cornfused) -

after:
-
It's not there... from the beggining I did stuff before the bios showed up
-
Mistargill, I've tried duplicating what you've done on my 7811, but no luck. Could you detail, step-by-step, how you enabled RAID on your 7811FX? It would be much appreciated...

Ok... Im guessing its one of these method I used or both has to do with it.
1. Stock hard drive has to be allocated as whole
= what I mean is get Dos based partition editor and burn it on cd and boot from it, than you can get rid of that 10gb hidden partition. I had one for a while and cant remeber whats it called. I'll get back to you on that.
2. I opened up and took out the stock hard drive. It had jumperst to limit to SATA not SATAII. I took the jumper as well.
3. (not sure this matters) I took the stock and put it on second bay, than took the new one (for me I had one since my old laptop) to the first drive bay.
Ok.. this is what I did. after than goto bios set it to raid and disable the quiet boot thingy and reboot. on the second boot screen "ctrl + I" will take you to raid... -
(And Dook I love the new avatar - long may he reign - woof!) -
What BIOS do you have? -
Jumper is little plastic thingy on the connector of the hard drive. I doubt that you have jumper put on in your hard drives. and if you have 2 hard drives I dont see why not go ahead and see if you have raid option?
I have 9c.08.00 bios. its stock -
This is what we needed to know, and again thanks!
Next question: guys, where do we get this new BIOS? -
there is a little more to it, but that can be gone over for the serious people who really want to flash. not to mention if you can in fact flash a 7811fx. i dont have one so i cant really say. -
-
i was waiting to hear if he flashed his already. and if so..where did he get his bios.... -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
though they could surprise everyone and release it tomorrow
-
-
Wait, WTeeEff? How are you getting 3.2ghz!!??
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
OMFG! Did you actually crack the BIOS and get it to run at 3.2?
-
Holy hell on Christmas you better not be holdin out on us!
-
lmao!!
nah, im not holding out. im still working on it. someone mentioned that i didn't have a raid so i got lost and switched over...*LOL*
3.2 is enabled, but it's not taking as of yet. i have to dig a bit deeper. the minute it happens or if it happens, i will be right here sharing like clock work. -
Ahh! Roger that! Thanks for the hard work!
I know this is annoying (RAID on 7811FX)
