Yes but the problem was ntfs4dos write capable was and maybe still is not free until ((Avira offering)). Using cr*cked does open one's horizons. Legally free is my first choice when possible.<------ that's what that meant
my bad, the avira offering through me off. -
LOL, we have to read the fine print.
Some of these things should not be tried at home.
There are several ways to get the same result and we all have our favorites. I often take the long way around because of my coveted amateur standing. -
Raid seems to have or... my new one seems to drop fps rate in every game every few seconds... do you guys kno what causes it?
-
Is your hard drive light illuminated during the FPS drop?
-
ill do the raid with the e sata or netowork backups
going to get my drives today i think. -
-
-
-
-
John did you disable your ftp access? I'm stealing the usb floppy from my work laptop and wanted to get that disk ready to go from here. It is rejecting the credentials.
-
yes, that dan.g superfetch was killing me. i remember it well. and it takes even long if your system has an improper shut down.
check back with it in 5 minutes. -
should be up now
-
So I have another question. Using a 1.44MB floppy that already has a 1MB bios image on it does the program save the backup bios somewhere else?
-
When the wincris application prompts me to format the disk, do I need to select the "copy dos crap" box? If so this won't leave me with enough room to copy the bios to the disk
-
Nevermind.
MINIdos.sys
Whooda thunk it? -
Has it been physically confirmed yet that the newer 7811 are shipping with this bios?
-
bleh, booted into recovery mode with my floppy drive. Got about 30 beeps then nothing. Even went and walked the dog to ensure I was waiting long enough. 20 min later still a black screen with no activity whatsoever. Gonna try the bootable cd method next.
-
i have a feeling its the bios not being a proper backup versus your method .
-
-
and you cant save a copy of the bios on the floppy because there is no room.
and we are trying to get it do a bios backup under dos, but to no avail as of yet. and that is really dam.n weird!!
phlash16 /bu /s /x
that should do the backup, but so far...it aint working for me...any one else having any luck under dos?? -
Wonder if we can ask mistargill to do another back up using a different method .
If you have any ideas for him maybe you could throw them his way . I would ask him but im not well versed in creating or backing up my bios`s.
Oh ya i just bought crysis warhead its installing now and looks awsome from the packaging. -
new crysis huh.... im more into online play now. so let me know how that works out. if you play. -
The new crysis comes with a seperate disc called crysis wars all multiplayer version totally awsome deal for 29 bucks.
-
Well I just spent an hour with every boot disk, cd boot disk, the ultimate cd boot disk, and bootable usb flash method I could think of. I can reliably get phlash16 to run and can even get it to pretend to back my bios up (it eventually freezes) but no way no how can I get it to even attempt to flash that bios.
We either need a new version of phlash that works with our gear or we need a proper bios file. -
-
Guess we need to do some sweet talking to Mistargill hopefully he will read some of these posts and offer more assistance if hes able to.
-
@johnksss: so about that 94.29.00 gateway bios file. can i just throw it on my usb (flash drive) boot and it'll take or do i have to create an autoexec.bat for it? if so, what do i need to write into the file?
-
yep.
if your disk is already setup, then replace that file with this one -
on a side note...the flash drive is set up for a bios update, but it was the files from the 94.28.00 'update' that are on the drive. does that make a difference? -
So for us 7811 users... the current conclusion is there is no way to flash to the new bios unless we can get it in a different form than what's posted?
-
make what ever changes you need to point it to load that file.
this file will load in bios recovery or normal flashing mode. (i did it both ways)
-
are there any other files i need to edit? -
your disk should look like this
1:minidos.sys
2:autoexec.bat (phlash16 /s /x /mode=3 bios-94-29.wph)(if not in recovery mode)
3: bios-94-28.wph (if in recovery mode it needs to be bios.wph) -
give me the link or something for the bios tool you want me to use john.
is there a way I can partiton my hard drive without deleting my os to dual boot 32 and 64 bit? I shoulda done this in the first place... sigh .. -
i take it as i need to delete stuff then? -
-
or somebody can provide me with vista 32bit thumb drive version
that would be nice
-
nah... that's cool too.
just rename the file bios.wph
and edit autoexec.bat to read the same thing and try that, if you havent already.
edit: mine is exactly as this is but with everything pointing to bios.wph. i just did it right now and worked fine. -
if so.
ftp.say-it-loud.com
username=sil
password=silsil -
I have the 64bit installed. winphlash and stuff doesnt run on 64bit. thats why i gotta use 32 bit... im gonna see if i can boot from my thumb
-
thanks john! it worked that time!
+rep -
pretty soon ill have all 4 ops running xp-32/64 vista-32/64 and i can have more answers for ya, but for right now....im all 32 bit. -
now if your going to leave that flash as it is...edit the autoexec.bat file to look like this
hlash16 /s /x /mode=3 bios.WPH
so that you dont make a mistake and leave that flash inserted into something. -
and if i ever needed to use the bios stuff again, i could just move the files from the folder (deleting the other things on the drive) to the root of the flash drive, right? -
you can delete choice. not sure why they had it. you could rename autoexec.bat
you can still use the flash for what ever...that's what i do, but since they had a sale on 2 gig's i got a few of them. one for each laptop. just to be safe later.lol
edit: if you add the ntfs4dos you can boot, read & write ntfs partitions. -
winphlash 64 doesnt work gave me an error

Oh lol. thats the Korean currency symbol. those we share as "\" yo know as a path\inside\to\inside to inside and so on
-
im sure ntfs4dos is useful, but i never really got into dos that much, though im sure i could use the tool as im pretty quick to figure out how things work.
I know this is annoying (RAID on 7811FX)
