So, it appears as if I've gone through yet ANOTHER plug for my laptop(I'm currently on my second one in 4 years). I plugged my plug in this morning and the box(sorry, not sure the tech term for this) that is in the middle of the plug started making a clicking sound. Also, my laptop did not power up. How can I find out what sort of plug I need to order? Whenever I go to the gateway website and type in my serial it always says it's not found. Does a model number etc make a different as to the plug I get Thanks for all the help!

Yes, your model number will matter.

It would seem like your adapter(box) may have died. Is your laptop able to power up without being plugged in?

Hi! No, it is not able to do so. I was using it without being plugged in when it showed a low battery, it was then when I went to plug it in I heard the clicking sound coming from the adapter.

So am I correct to surmise that

    a) your laptop is able to work without being plugged in, but due to the fact that its battery is out, it is currently unable to work.

    b) your adapter is making a clicking sound and not charging your laptop.

    Correct?

This may be what you are looking for.

I'm not completely certain, but it was the only one I found.
