So I installed Vegas Movie Studio and the DVD Architect that comes with it.. I spent 7 hours editing this movie for my daughter.. (bleeping out curse words) and when it finally came to burn it onto a DVD.. I transferred it to Architect and it froze.. then I received my first BSOD. Anyone know what may of caused it?

Is there a Minidump Folder in the Windows Directory ?
-
welcome to the club!
most common thing to do is a memory test, just search memtest86+.
you might want to do a cpu stress test, but I doubt it's the cpu. -
I figured that Architect wasn't compatible with Vista 64Bit.. but I dunno. Vegas was.. so I assumed Architect would be. -
It'll be in Drive/Windows/Minidump.

Okay, and what if there is a Minidumb folder? what if there's not?
-
sounds like a software bug to me try and recreat it. take a short clip spend a couple of minutes just 'playing' with it so it's not the same as before and do the exact same thing again. If it happens again, then it's one of the 2 programs.

To debug a BSOD, a memory dump is necessary. If there is a Minidump, you can upload that, alongwith a saved .NFO of msinfo32. -

Did you happen to switch to battery power towards the end there? I had a ton of problems with the 175 video driver crapping out on battery power. It only BSOD'ed me once, but it did like to crash. It was always a power management error. The 176 driver seems to have fixed that problem.

I'm not sure.. I have my settings set so that the lights do not dim even if the power isn't being charged..
I did look at the battery icon though.. and this was before or after (I forget) and it said something like 'Plugged in but not charging'.. -
Should I still run a Memory test? I have a feeling it was a software issue.. the BSOD happened right after one of those 'Programs not Responding' thingys.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the memory test yet. I know some people will say you should, but my guess is that it'd turn up no problems since a single piece of software has displayed a crash instead of multiple pieces of software. Crashes, unfortunately, happen with even the best software as we all know. Last time I ran a memory test on a computer (2GB RAM) it took several hours and turned up no faults even though some programs were unstable. You can run a test, but do it in a big block of time while you're away from the computer or sleeping.
I kind of have a bias against video/DVD authoring software since they all seem to be unstable at times. At least you got 7 hours on Vegas Studio though. Remember all those people on Windows Movie Maker that maybe get 30 to 45 minutes a pop. -
So yeah, there is a minidump folder.. It has a Mini100808-01.dmp file in it.
I received my first BSOD.. :(
