I ripped by mistake the keyboard cover on my P-7811..I hope it's not going to be an odyssey to replace...

Today I ripped the soft keyboard cover that protect the screen from the pressure of the keys on my P-7811 FX when the lid is closed.
It's the standards thin black cover with the Gateway logo that is included with every new GW laptop.
I called the technical service and I had hard time just trying to explain the part I need to the...."technician"....

There is not part number for it I suspect...the guy gave me the phone number of the Mundo Corporation (Sunday is closed) but on their web site they list only very few parts for the Gateway laptops...mainly batteries, AC adapters and hard drives.

I called Best Buy just to see if they could give me one from some laptops they have in stock but not a chance...

Of course I want to pay for it....but I get the feeling that it will be quite the challenge to get one...seems like that buying Gateway parts is serious pain....

    Any suggestion is highly appreciated...

    Thank You!!

    Regards

Thats not a keyboard protector... lol

Its just shipped with every notebook out there to prevent the keys from scratching the screen during transit.

Go out and buy a pack of microfibre cleaning cloths/ screen cloths and just leave it on your keyboard when you close it. It also doubles as a screen cleaner.

Are you talking about a clear sticker? You can just use a cleaning cloth or a protective sheet for it.

    .......................................................................
yea, that's something that they put in the box to prevent shipping damage......

All you'd need is a microfiber cloth or something..................................................................

EDIT: couldn't you still use it ripped any way?

i dont understand why you need to replace it?

    1) you can still use it
    2) it doesn't really do anything major except prevent the rare event of the keys scratching the screen (this will only happen if the laptop is closed and you place too much pressure on it)
    3) i treat my laptop like a baby, clean the screen, blow out the fans like twice a week, but even I don't use that thing anymore
    4) you can buy a real protector much easier than you could find a new one of those

apparently this guy thinks its an official part of the notebook. dude man, this part is like the box it came in. its ONLY meant to protect the screen when it was being shipped. i mean come on. do you keep the cardboard box it came in and use it like a laptop bag? think about your question really hard, then feel stupid.

Lol, good luck getting a replacement. Might as well request the box and packaging materials as well.

This is great! Truly we love our laptops so much that even the protective sheet is valuable to us! I still use mine as well, and I felt sad when it got a small tear in it. I realize it's not a big deal, but I can't help but feel that my beloved lappy is no longer new...it's...USED!
